I' m having a little fiddle with my RV every day but progress is slow. Currently have the dash ripped out and trying to make de-mister ducting for the screen. I got a really good set of 225-75x15 General Grabber tyres for it last week so now I need to re-furb the alloys before I fit them. The front end seems to sit a bit low, so a new set of springs will be fitted. I didn't know until last week that the Mk3, Mk4 and Mk5 Cortinas all had different length front springs (the early Mk3 being the longest). It looks like I might have a go at making my own hard doors unless a set turn up somewhere. The early ones with sliding windows would do nicely. I'll post up some photo's when something interesting happens. John

The RV is looking good! I really wanted to get to this one but had a day at the Paralympics yesterday and didn't get home until 2.30am this morning. I'll just have to stay home and do a bit more work on my dashboard. John

Well Biggles, I think you had better get Algie and Ginger on the team again, crank up the Camel and let rip. That's a fair job you have there. ;D ;D Ha. . .ha. . Yes, I have to say though, I was sort of expecting it. Once you start pulling old kit cars apart, there's usually lots of horrors to be found. I guess you just have to remember that this old thing is the best part of 30 years old and lots of different people have had their fingers in there bodging it up. I've got a plan for it and it should turn out ok. The one thing I'm not going to do is keep a record of the expense. I'd be forever thinking. . . . "I could have bought a good Jeep Wrangler with that money". John

Though I'd better face it, so here goes! The dash / wiring and demisting system is first to get attention. The dash was made of plywood and had completely rotted away. This is due to a two inch gap in the windscreen seal at the bottom which only became visible once I'd pulled the old screen vent tube off the top of the dashboard. Water must have been pissing in for ages. All the wiring is corroded and the metal box section that goes across bottom of the dash is very rusty. The wiring is a multi-coloured birds nest of crap, most of which doesn't seem to go anywhere. The pictures show exactly how the wiring was, hanging down, not clipped up anywhere and live cables dangling down with bare ends. Amazingly, EVERYTHING WORKS! Heres a few pictures to give you all a chuckle. One bonus is that my old hardtop is only around half an inch from fitting. I'll remove the sreen frame and re-fit it at a slightly different angle. I'll post up more as I progress, but it may take a while. John

Great, bring it down tomorrow to Newark lol, come and join a record number of 5 RV's on show today! See you soon, make sure you join the club and get a membership card Welcome and enjoy the RV Ed I'd love to bring it to Newark tomorrow but I don't think it will be delivered for a week or so yet. This is my third RV. I did attend Newark in my black one some years back (possibly 2004 or 2005). Here it is. John

I missed this one the first time around but it got re-posted. I wasn't going to miss it twice. Love the old skool Wolfie wheels (complete with centre caps). They must be worth a few quid on their own. I'm getting a few quotes from Shipley to get it home. It's a long way from Warrington to Potter Heigham. John

It looks like Sunday will be the better day weather wise. I might come along and have a look. I'm still "Eagleless" at the moment but I'll come up in the old Fox Mustang. . . . so I can get free admission to the show I had hoped I might have found a suitable RV by now but the search goes on. I'm a bit sick I missed this one as it looked a good base to start from. Sadly I was out of the country during the auction and had no chance of viewing it. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190681550483?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649John

I have no first hand experience of the 2.3 but a good friend of mine used to run two Scorpio 2.3's as taxi's. He reckoned that they were brilliant. I owned a Granada automatic with the 2.0 twin cam and it was superb. For a big lump of a car, it was excellent on petrol.

I saw that one Peter but a little research showed that the seller had only owned it for a couple of months and it was previously advertised a little more honestly. Plus the fact, it's a hell of a long way from me. To get it home would be expensive. There's one in Cornwall, been for sale for ages that looks ok but again, much too far away. I have my eye on one in Leicester but the seller has an inflated idea of the value. I'm working on it though. John

You're getting there mate. You'll have it on the road by next spring. I'm searching for one at the moment. Looked at a couple but I'm hanging on to make sure I get something that forms a good base to start from. Keep posting the photo's.

Hi Peter, it was an eBay sale and I don't remember who it went to. I remember the guy came and collected it and drove it home with his young son. I met them at Norwich train station. He did say that he planned to put a bigger engine in it. Don't know why, it was a really good 2.0 pinto. Never missed a beat.
Shame if it no longer exists.

Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone here knows the whereabouts of my last RV. I sold it around 6 years ago (I remember parking it on the club stand at Newark one year). It was my daily driver for 2 years or more and was really good when I sold it. It appears that it's still on the DVLA database but has not been taxed for a while and is not declared sorn either, so guess it's been broken up. Any clues ?? John

thanks guys, but how do i tell if its a mk3 or mk 4/5 ? to be a pest but im very green on this sort of stuff! Ah. . . I think you mean. . How do you tell if your RV is based on a Mk3, 4 or 5? You'll probably have to measure the diameter of your anti-roll bar and try and find out the various Ford specifications. John
