Hi I thought the Golden rule was to keep it simple so it can always be fixed and will always be on the road! I am following that(your) advice hopefully mine will be back on the road early June after a rather big rebuild

Thats an interesting question I think an SS in fantastic condition could be worth much more than that I recon on 5 to 6k for a really good one, at the end of the day its quiet bespoke and its worth what someone wants to pay and how much they want one and lets face it when was the last time you parked yours up and someone didnt go WOW ?

I was interested in it he sent me a picture of it it sticks out at the bottom be a nightmare to fit and if it ever broke you would have done all the mods for nothing as you wont get another

If you look closely at the previous picture you can see the tasteful chrome skull steering wheel which was held on by 3 tiny wood screws i kid you not ! but now its sorted with a quick release steering boss after a bit of fabricating /welding but now looks pukka

Thanks i was lead to believe that the prop shaft only needed cutting down as the type 9 is slightly longer Did you have to make a new hole for the gear shift to come through? or does it still come up in the same place ?

I will take some pics of my SS this weekend and try to get them uploaded i am no computer geek but i am sure i will manage ,new set of clocks arrived from the USA today so looking forward to getting on with the electrics and sorting the demist heating out and the new wiper motor and pantograph wiper then i can put the dash back in , it was actually a doddle to take out as it is only held on by 4 x screws
I have already spent a small fortune getting the engine running just right and sorting out the cooling system and charging system now both spot on ,once I have got the dash back in need to sort horrible bang from the rear axle the noisy clutch ( might go for a five speed unless I am convinced otherwise ) then the brake, when I say brakes its actually more effective to put my hand out of the window as an air brake lol

Hi all I do agree but what makes it worse is that our kit cars are one of, if not the rarest around, the thing with other kits or any other collectable vehicle is when there are more of them there is more going on, when you go to shows and see what everyone else is doing it inspires you to work on yours and I think that this site lacks inspiration from members me included
Yes money and time are a factor but mine is mot ed and road worthy I am just trying to undo all the bad jobs done on it in the past which there are many! I have done so much to it so far but not scratched the surface ,I for one wont be selling it any time soon, its taken me 6 months but ive at last sorted out the auto choke and the heating system it now purrs (or should that be roars ) believe it or not most of my electrical gremlins are from a bad earth ! anyway next jobs a rewire and fit a heater control so it blows hot and cold like a normal car

The 2 ltr is a doddle to work on but as I have come from a 928 it is not to quick. I think you just have to accept its faults as all cars have and enjoy it, sometimes having to much power is no fun this car puts a smile on your face every time you take it out, each time I take it out it seems to drive better . I will put a quieter exhaust on it though as its way to loud I will make it myself it will be a rear central exhaust

Right I finally got a whole load of jobs done .I fitted /bodged on the half round steering wheel and immediately hated it so I started again . I butchered the old cortina boss and made and welded a new circular plate to it, I then purchased a new 330mm steering wheel and 25mm quick release boss the result is stunning it really looks and feels the part I will hopefully get some pics on here.
I flushed the heating system new water pump and thermostat I drilled and soldered a new boss onto the radiator so I could fit a new temp sender bloody thing still runs above 90 so I think a new radiator is in order the problem with thermo syphon is its not great even with the pump I even raised the radiator to get a better flow as the top hose was higher than the radiator which is never good
I then removed the side windows and fitted new stainless nuts and bolts very fiddly to get right especially as I couldn't open the window on the first attempt dohh .
Then I took it out for its first proper drive wow the noise the vibration and the hard suspension !
Does anyone know if there are much softer springs for the car if so where do I get them ?
I have spotted the car builder shop are doing a complete gauge kit so I think a new set is in order to remove my miss match of gauges .

brilliant thanks for that I will get the necessary bits, found my new alternator had packed in today very frustrating as I had just brought a new battery and voltage regulator that will teach me to treat the car to new parts also the brake master cylinder bowl has come out in sympathy and started leaking ahh will it ever end I thought it was a fairly sorted car it was when it was new no doubt

Hi that's the one I actually brought but after a bit of head scratching realised I will have to get the welder out luckily im a fairly skilled welder fabricator so don't have a problem with doing it ,bit surprised you cant buy one that simply fits straight on to the Cortina steering column

Thanks for that have just completed another job! When I got it it had a horrible vibration and it was so noisy even with a cherry bomb, I stripped the exhaust system and found everything was just pushed together hence all the cafuffle .Everything is now properly riveted /screwed together (all stainless of course )now it sounds and drives so much better I also jizered the engine and got rid of years of crud, took hours but it is so much better and all the fume smells have gone I think an oil and filter change tomorrow is on the cards I have also located some Ram Air filter material to replace the crumbling excuse I have, onward and upward!
