Great have discovered my new carburettor has a pin hole in the float bowl been smelling petrol for weeks replaced all the hoses and fitted a new gasket however today on very close inspection you can see it wetting on the casting grrrrr hopefully I will get a chance to stick my old carb back on so I can get to the show
I was hoping to get a shed load of jobs done this week including the carpets but I may turn up as a nearly finished car which I guess is better than not turning up at all
At least with this cold weather my new heated seats will be handy had them recovered they look fab , and my steaming up windscreen and windows is a thing of the past . This will be the longest journey its been on since the rebuild so fingers crossed

After nearly a year off the road being nearly mechanically and electrically re build my 1988 pinto SS is back on the road and driving like different car from the death trap I purchased , I finally figured out the poor running which was a constant problem but had an easy fix
The fuel return to the fuel tank had been capped off everyone I spoke to said this was not a problem then I spotted an american forum where someone was having the same problem , easy fix put a T piece before the fuel pump with a restricter (which in my case was a rivet with a 1.5mm hole in it ) connect the return to this and hey presto no more stuttering or poor running in town as the float bowls are no longer being bombarded with fuel

Finally made up a gearbox mount and fitted it got everything else connected the prop shaft went straight in no cutting required re connected all the other little bits then the moment of truth Fired up first go and purred, ran for twenty minutes then re torqued the head bolts but it did involve having to remove the carburettor grrrr . Then I refitted the rocker cover and put some sealer on it as oil poured out without it . Then holding my breath I tried the gearbox and everything worked happy days ,next job then! Problem is I have to get a rubber mount between the gearbox and the chassis(20 mm clearance) and the bolt hole for the gearbox is fouled by the chassis, but after a day thinking about it I may have a solution which involves using two rubber bobbins and a bracket I can make up its been giving me brain ache all day

Once I have sorted out the gearbox issue I will have to sort out the clonk from the rear diff when taking up the drive hopefully simple any ideas ? Then there is the interior to put back in looks worse than it actually is it all goes back together easily (I hope)

Just remember the ford Eagle has no rear wheel grip as it only has the weight of a tea bag over the rear wheels so more power will be harder to get down, great for rubbery number elevens though
