Hi Peter I know how you feel we have had this problem for a while on the other forums that we help run / moderate. You put a lot of effort in for no real return from the members. I don't have any answers for you. But I for one would miss the forum as I come on and look everyday. I am not going to post in threads about SS's as i know very little about them and the RV posts are few a far between these days I hope you have a change of heart but I wouldn't blame you if you didn't. Thank you for all that you have done to keep it going to date. Gary

Mine is an Eagle on the V5 and it's date of first registration is 1993 which is what it was given to it as that was the date that chap from the Dvla came to inspect it. The donor was w reg cortna but I had changd the engine so I did't have eight points to keep the registration so it a Q plate.

Is it running when it's back firing or is it doing it on starting?
If it's doing it when running try undoing the bolt that holds the plate below the distributer which holds it tight and just turning the distributer a little one way and see if it levels out if it gets worse then go the other way, you will soon know which way is the right way, if it stalls while you are moving the distributer then return it to where it was before it stalled and try again.

If you still have points ignition, setting the timing should be pretty straightforward. . . I seem to remember doing it with a transistor radio, anyone else? . . . :-) No but it's still fairly simple task to do by ear and then when it's running smooth-ish then get hold of a timing light to fine tune. Just done mine by ear, running nice at the moment but watch this space What's your location you never know one of us might be just round the corner from you.

Helen and I should be there all weekend.
I am hoping to get the RV there but I am yet to start it after it current rebuild as it was still very smoky after I changed the stem seals, so went to town, striped it! new pistons, rings, bearings the lot including getting the valve seats sorted (unleaded conversion) So as long as I get time to start it I will be bringing it along.

Engine is all ready to be lifted out this weekend so that I can balance the work on my van and the engine repairs (it's smoking quite badly). Hopefully getting the RV ready for Stoneleigh and the van back to work.....Time will tell

This is the picture I was given when I enquired about a soft top frame. The measurements are very similar to the soft top frame I bought for mine.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Peter. I know where you coming from with this, but this is not an just eagle SS problem it's a problem with the used kit car market on the whole. If I had the answer I freely give it alas having tried several different ideas with the other marque's that I own we have always come up with no solution I will be keeping my RV for as long as I can and will endeavour to keep the other kits on road.

Then when its warm enough, fit the soft top and finish trimming the interior. Not much to do before then end of April then! That's right enough unless you have heating in your garage ( which I don't) or live in Spain Currently 28 and very warm

I forgot to mention that our RV has now been MOTed and Taxed since August. We still haven't done too many miles in it as I have been repairing the hard top and fitting new hold down clips so that we can remove it quickly when required. OH yeah, I also fitted a sunroof into the hard top that I removed from an old orion saloon I used to have. (fits nice) Engine is still a bit rough but It getting there, I will get some pictures up sometime.
