hi all. I've just bought myself an Eagle SS resto project. its my first time on this forum and first time dabbling with kit cars. My name is Shaun and I live in Suffolk . I believe mine is a late mk1(constructed in 1985). its VW based , with a 1.8 golf lump in the back. its very very tired. I need lots of help. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Shaun, Welcome aboard the board. Nice to see another Eagle on it's way to recovery, could you please PM me with all the details so I can add it to the register. If it is a MkI then it will have the side windows hinged at the front edge rather than in the top and bottom corners as on the MkII (separate nose) and III. Many things to do on here including asking lots of daft questions which we have all asked in the past which is why we know (nearly) all the answers, so ask away. There are also useful tips and information on the web sites 'technical page'. Starting your own 'build diary' was a good move, please keep us updated on progress. I would suggest you read the 'world famous thread' on here, "So you want to build a kit car?", not just because I wrote I and think it is great but it can save a lot of heart ache and wasted time and money. These 'projects' are never, "a couple of weekends work", as so many have found out but can take years depending on the three main elements, skills, money, facilities, lacking in any one of these and the fourth element kicks in, time, and it escalates exponentially into years. The basic advise is, forget all the things you would LIKE to do to it and do all the things you HAVE to do to it first, then when you have a solid, road going car, play with it by all means, if you start with grand ideas you will get into the "Oh look, a butterfly" trap and never be on the road. Me? I'm in stage two plus, running, road going and undergoing a complete interior re-trim and totally in "butterfly mode", I think I'm on the fourth center console/dashboard idea this year.

This may be my old car. I brought a 1985 vw based eagle ss in 1995.I had to do a lot of work to the car, and brought a gearbox conversion plate from a vw magazine, I then fitted a 90 horse power 1.8 golf engine. I had to cut a hole in the engine cover to allow for the carburettor. The registration number was Q442 EGV and I sold it to somebody in Lowestoft. I am now in the process of restoring a Ford based SS. I live in Ipswich, let me know if you have any questions. Neil.
