Another job that I done early on was to modify the cortina steering column because it is quite a bulky thing. I found that the clutch pedal was very close to it and the pedal couldn't be moved any further to the left due to the transmission tunnel. I removed the lower part of the outer column casing so that there was more room to press down the clutch pedal without my foot being obstructed by the column.I had to install an extra bearing to stop movement inside the column assembly, but now clutch pedal operation is much improved.

I Brought this car in june 2013 and one of the first jobs that I did was to remove the engine. The car had been standing outside for many years and the cylinder head had not been fitted. The person who previously owned the car had spent a lot of money on reconditioning the engine. But as you can see from the photo the rain water had got into the engine when it ran down the windscreen and under the bonnet. The pistons where seized solid to the cylinders and the engine was now scrap! Attachments:

I have found this from a brochure that was produced in 1988 and it shows the the Eagle ss being made. It is a mystery as to what has happened to the SS and RV production moulds now. At the time the company was directed by R Budd and a Series 3 'SS' would cost £2225 plus VAT for a kit that included the chassis, all the glass and quite a lot of other parts. Has anybody heard anything about what has happened to the moulds? If the SS was to be produced again it could go back to its Beetle roots to avoid the IVA teat. There are still some other VW beetle kits out there even if it is a very old donor vehicle now.

Thanks, It would be great to know that these seats will fit straight in my car even if they will need recovering. and if you have some remains of the carpet these will make good patterns. Hope you are well. Regards, Neil

I have worked out the wiper wiring from the lucas pentagraph wiper motor to a ford cortina 2 position wiper switch.
Wiper motor pin number 1 to earth. wiper motor pin number 2 to pin 31B of cortina wiper switch. wiper motor pin number 3 to pin 53B of cortina wiper switch. wiper motor pin number 4 to pin 54 of cortina wiper switch, and also to a 12 volts feed when ignition switched on. wiper motor pin number 5 to pin 53 of cortina wiper switch.
When wired up in this way the windsceen wiper motor will work correctly and park correctly. The lucas wiper motor on my car has an adjustment that you can rotate to make it park on the left or centre or right of the windscreen.

I think if you look on Wikipedia there is a picture of it, it is yellow. I spoke to tim of teac sportscars who developed it and then sold the project to someone in northern Ireland. But no one seems to know any more about it.

This is a phase 2 Eagle ss that I brought in 1995 without an engine. I brought a gearbox conversion plate from volksworld magazine. I had to also fit a slightly newer type beetle gearbox which had a slightly different clutch release bearing that included a thrust bearing guild tube. I used a modified Austin mini wiring loom along with all the mini switches and wiper motor. I also fitted a mini heater but it was coupled up to vw passat heater controls. I fitted new black carpets and the dashboard which had been previously modified I had covered in black vinyl. The seats were brown and beige cobra or corbeau buckets. The headlamps were rectangular and recessed into the wings, I spoke to eagle cars about these and they told me that this wouldn't have been a factory fit but a modification carried out by someone at a later date. The car went well with it's 90 HP engine as it was very light. I sold the car to someone in Lowestoft in 1997.

This may be my old car. I brought a 1985 vw based eagle ss in 1995.I had to do a lot of work to the car, and brought a gearbox conversion plate from a vw magazine, I then fitted a 90 horse power 1.8 golf engine. I had to cut a hole in the engine cover to allow for the carburettor. The registration number was Q442 EGV and I sold it to somebody in Lowestoft. I am now in the process of restoring a Ford based SS. I live in Ipswich, let me know if you have any questions. Neil.

I am struggling to wire up the wiper motor on my Eagle ss. The build manual tells you to wire it up to a lucas 39710 switch. I don't have one of these switches and can't seem to find what vehicle would be fitted with one. I think that it may be fitted to a bus of some sort. Does anyone know of a similar switch that would work, or how to wire the motor up to the cortina wiper switch that is fitted to my car? I can get the wiper motor to work with a simple rocker switch, But I want the wiper to park correctly.

Thanks for the info on the seats. A Ford based SS I owned in 2002 had Bedford rascal seats, and they did fit in quite well. It helps to have a pair of seats that recline as there is limited headroom inside the car. I have looked on ebay for these type seats but so far haven't found any. The main reason for obtaining the roll over bar was to mount the seat belts. But I may now consider using a steel plate under the parcel shelf as you suggested. I will still keep an eye open for one though,or may have a go at making one. Thanks for the advice.

Is there any progress with this vehicle/body shell? are the old reclining seats and roll over bar for sale? I know that these must be quite narrow seats that will fit well into my Phase 2 Eagle ss.

It would be a shame if body or windsceen was damaged when you remove the body fron chassis. They often get damaged when removing or in transit. I have a ford based Eagle ss chassis for sale with front axle and suspension and rear axle with suspension. It may be easier for you to use this for your project rather thet break up the car you have.

I would be interested in seats, doors , roll over bar and carpets for patterns. Have you still got any of these? This would be for an Eagle SS that I am restoring.

I am a new member. I have had a couple off SS's in the past and am looking for a new SS project Does anyone know if there is a difference between the doors on the Phase 1,2 and 3 models. Also is it possible to get an SS though an SVA test? Has it ever been done? If not, what are the reasons car not able to pass?
