Should you want to know the price of converting to electric
Thanks for your email.
For us to convert your Eagle SS to the same spec' as the silver Beetle would cost around £35k including VAT. This would give you a range of around 100 miles. If you're up to the challenge of a DIY project we can provide you with the components that you would need for £19k including VAT.
Richard had an Eagle SS - great, fun car!
Need to save a little bit more

Had a look at the engine over the weekend, thought I would see if it would turn over. Removed spark plug number one put some oil in there all good. Removed spark plug number two and my worst fears. Full of water. Spark plug all rusty as was the water. Who knows how long that's been like that. I guess it's as Peter predicted a engine rebuild. As it seems solid I could not move it manually. After this blow my resolve began to waver. But not for long got a plan again.
Get the brakes working again did before I can do it again. Get some help in with the doors and hinges plus locks. I can then think about the engine / rewire, most likely get a mobile mechanic on the job or tow to local garage to sort. If the engine is a none starter write off, might be worth me doing some home work on an electric motor. I read somewhere on the web that used electric fort trunks can supply the inners required, charger, battery's, motor etc. But this may be a pipe dream. Anyone dabbled into the electric era yet?

Its been a quite a while since I was on this site posting, but do pop in from time to time taking an envious looksy at all the projects. I had a deal with a garage to get my Eagle SS though to MOT stage, which has all gone pear shaped. Its been going on for a few years and I finally tracked my car down (as it disappeared from the garage, had been taken to the holding area several miles away, the garage moved twice without telling me) and recovered it back to my house. There were times where I though I would never see it again!
The only progress is the windscreen, looks professionally fitted, a few extra wires have turned up, but that's about it. It looks like its been kept out side for a few years despite being told is was safe in inside storage. Any other progress I made on it has been undone by the weather, all the replacement roof hinges are rusted solid, cracked the top fibre glass roof trying to open the doors.
So my bad news is I'm back to square one, with a load of wasted time and a large hole in the wallet. (another battle)
Good news I have my car back, my son is a number of years older whom has taken an interest in the car also, so its going to be a good project for him and me we are not giving up. I'm going to do some of the work myself and get the mobile mechanics in to do some of the other work required.
This weekend will be spent, seeing if I can unjam the bonnet catch, Getting another battery (the one it had has gone missing) and seeing if the car still turns over. I know it will not stop if I manage to start it as a load of rusty brake pads are in the car foot well under one inch of watery soil......brill
Hope this read make some of your projects feel a little easer.
Enjoy your cars

I viewed the car as it was not far from me in Ashby. I thought this project looked a lot further on than mine and would not take too much to get it ready for the road. But when I viewed it, I came to the conclusion it will need quite a bit of work and stripping down to replace some parts and would soon get to my current cars state and end up with two identical part done cars so no benefit really. So it was not really worth a £2000 pounds ahead of my project start. Might be for someone. I will keep my eyes out it may come back on the selling area at a reduced price not much good without the right documents.

Rock and a hard place Its been a long while since I sent my Kit car to get a MOT
Garage has done some work on the car but not nearly enough to cover half the deposit paid. If I pull the car out of the garage its going to be a fight to recover any owed money, I keep pushing them hard to finish what we agreed and pay the other half which would be best But it don't see it happening - its going to get prickly soon Life is so smooth! I should have kept the car and paid as I go with a local mobile mechanic type of bod..........grrrrrr one day on the road!

Well just an update form me as its been a while, been up to the local garage about my project. I try to get there once every few months. My project started off well, but it is not really moving very far these days, its always on the back burner with higher paying jobs in front of it :-( The good thing is its inside and nice and dry much better then my drive, but the work on it is so slow!!! it does not look much different to when I first got collected and taken in. Still waiting an MOT to go on it, which looking at the car is still a long way off. I have decided to try and go up to the garage once a week and get the project moving again in the new year. The deal was always for the garage to get it to a MOT state and then I would try and make it look pretty, as I do not have funds for a paint job etc. The garage which is mainly a body shop place for old VW campers will show me the ropes and let me use their equipment to make it look pretty again. So that's the current plan, me to start going to the garage every Sunday starting in Feb 2015, and start to push them again ...will this be the year the eagle ss is back on the road!!!

I was really looking forward to Newark this year, it was my aim to drive the Eagle to its maiden show what a shame. I've done a few antique fairs at Newark and at close by Swinderby, Swinderby could host the show no problem, it’s only a stone’s throw from Newark. Its an old RAF base, perhaps the powers that organize would consider this as a alternate venue.

Mine looked to be originally stuck in with black mastic which had gone all hard, the new screen was fitted by some auto windscreen type of company, they were on site fitting a new screen in a VW camper so the garage got them to re do mine as well, not sure what they use but it looks a lot neater than my attempts

Not gone for the slab down, Its 25' foot long, which would be about £400 pounds to have ready concrete delivered. So it’s going to be bricks down then pallets on top, I have a load of bricks & pallets & floor boarding to use up, so a lot cheaper floor solution. New felt is on now, I will make is all snug soon. Was also looking at the metal lorry contains at the same time as sheds, they would have been a similar price compared with the shed and slab, but I would have had to hire something to lift the container into place, so the price started escalating more, shed & cheap floor route for me.

Bought a shed of a mate, put it up over the last two weekends, its part of the master plan to move all the stuff out of the brick garage which is bursting and into this wooden shed. Floor to do next, its a bigger job than I thought but will be worth it in the end!

Went to the garage the other day to take a looksy at what the boys had been up to, they had the engine starting up sweet, not even a wrrr wrrr sound before starting as I so often heard, but straight away brum and running, sounding nice too . I had not started the engine in a very long while and would only turn over lately. They had got the spark back and sorted the timing out as it was miles out apparently ......who knew!. Anyway the engine needs some parts which he have been ordered. One part I forget the name of it is proving difficult to obtain, but is a part they can fabricate if they have too, so nothing to worry about. They were also ordering brake parts etc next, as they wanted to take it for a little spin before taking the body off.
So that’s the story so far, will pop back next Thursday see how things are moving along and update again

Elvis has left the building..........nope I mean the eagle has left the drive. The boys came along today and picked it up along with a Oda Mae Brown cheque moment!! (Gost film) Will pop up to the garage in a couple of weeks, as the body shell will be off and it will have been dried out, just to be nosey and have a cup of coffee with them..............All good so far fingers crossed it continues.

I'm based on the border between South Yorkshire and Lincoln near the river Trent, about 30 mins from Newark, so if all goes to plan will be at the Newark Kit Cat show next year. Hopefully I can make it look pretty in time for the show, otherwise it will be as is appearance....Getting giddy again, like when I first bought it.

Well took a ride to the garage today and alls good, it’s not to far way and impressed with their large building and facilities. They were doing a fibre glass body of a lotus, just completed spraying a Lexus and had a number of other cars in stages of prep work VW camper vans and the like when I turned up out the blue. All seems good, A deal has been done, they pick my car up on Thursday next week plus a deposit. Time frame approx 3 month. So as long as nothing major goes wrong, I will have the eagle back with a MOT ready for the road. It will still need a paint job, will have to brush up on my filling and painting skills and pick these boys brains for that one, but it will be a massive step forward. Over time here I come

Well the local garage lads popped over today to look at the SS, the other contact I had seems to have gone all quite and no show this week. Anyway the local bods seemed OK and would prefer some one local so that I can keep on it, they knew their stuff about axel types and other things. They made sense talking that the body has to come off, grit blasting repainting etc, suspension bushes all the stuff mentioned above really and rewired. So it would be a case of giving the car over to them and I get it back with a MOT. My budget was not far away from their quote range. I cannot stretch to have the outside all done and looking pretty, it would be my budget price again, but at least I could get my project on the road and drive able.
The only area of concern was the door locks for the MOT, doors have to open from inside and out, explained that these locks used to be bonnet catches, so he has a plan now of how these can be locked and released by fitting a plate etc to hold the catches. Will have a search on this site see if any pictures or info of what alternatives have been used.
I’m going to pop over to their garage next week to have a looksy, if all looks OK will do the deal, 50% now and 50% when all done.
Will also contact a few KITCAR mags to see if this story would be of interest to their readers, might even be worth a few quid to claw some money back for a paint job.....here’s hoping!

Well have two garages bods coming out next week...yipee about time too, One from a proper kit car rebuild place some distance away, the other from a body shop place which is fairly local to me. The local guy has done a couple of kit cars before.
Have I got the order of work right here ? looking at this high level
Rip out all electrics
Take off steering wheel and anything else stopping the body coming off
Body shell off
Make sound replace whats not good rusty etc
Fix running gear/engine/brakes etc
Body shell back on
Rewire fit instruments/lights
Align doors boot bonet etc
MOT
****** Hopefully my budget gets me this far *****
New Paint job - But this can be further down the line
If I'm missing anything major shout out,
I'm sure these bods will have their own idea of order, but would like to break it into stages for progress and payment

No Model type showing on my V5c under variant or version -- all blank Vin number shows 3 letters & 3 numbers In fact might be worth me trying to talk to DVLA Just to confirm .. on second thoughts at £1.53 per min lets not push any alarm buttons not needed.
Simiple answer is to get a vaild MOT as cheaply as possible... cough cough! before spending lots of money just to see if the DVLA web site accepts the taxing request. Just need to talk to a sympathetic MOT garage if there is such a thing these days

Thanks for the reply, been on the DVLA web site to the Vehicle enquiry part and get the following
Date of Liability 01 12 1986 Date of First Registration 01 06 1985 Year of Manufacture 1985 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2000cc CO₂ Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLACK Vehicle Type Approval Not Available ..............hmmm any one else got this on thier V5c? done some searching see below Date of Last V5C Issued 11 08 2008 Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle 6 Months Rate £123.75 12 Months Rate £225.00
When checking the MOT part, get a big fat error in red, It may not have had one for a very long time so may not be on the computer, Error: We are unable to process your request because the vehicle you searched for has no test that can be reported.
Search results for Vehicle Type Approval 1. Overview All vehicles need to be approved to make sure they meet certain safety and environmental standards.
Normally, the manufacturer or importer will take care of this.
However, your vehicle might not have approval, and you might need to apply for it. Examples of when this might happen include if you’ve:
built or rebuilt a vehicle radically altered a vehicle reconstructed a classic vehicle imported a vehicle There are different ways you can get approval for a single or small number of vehicles:
Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) - if you’re making or importing a single vehicle or a very small number of vehicles
Also at last a company called Irntam Kitz are willing to come out and give me a quote for a rebuild , if I pay the fuel costs which is fair enough. But would like to make sure this Vehicle Type Approval is not a problem going forward for taxing it.
