Hi all, my brother and I have bought an unfinished MK3 SS and we are pretty much having to start from scratch.
Just wondering if anyone has or could possibly take photos of how the body is mounted to the chassis? Would be a great help!
As to mounting the seats, this site mentions that they are mounted to the floor, but as the floor is fibreglass surely this is incorrect?
Any help whatsoever at this stage would be greatly appreciated!!!

Firstly congratulations on your purchase, It will swallow your time like nothing else! I suspect the you have a Ford based kit and so you will have to temper my responce with the knolledge tht I have a VW based one! ;D The body is attached by a number of long bolts throgh the side rails, I think about 10 or 12 if I remember. I think that the floor should be steel, on the VW based kit it is the original chassis floor, and the mounting plates for the seats fit through this. I will try and put up some pics of mine for comparison, but am very busy at work so may not be for a day or so. Hope this helps and good luck with the rebuild. Jon

Yup she is a black Cortina based SS , any help would be appreciated and unfortunately I have checked and it is a fibreglass floor not like a beetle chassis. I will get pics of her up soon enough

If it helps, I'm just starting this area on my SS. My seats have four bolts on the bottom runners. These go all the way through the fiberglass floor and into holes located in flat metal bar. There are several flat bars joining criss cross over the chassis a bit like this # . (Well it would if the metal flat bar had not tried to rust away.) Just trying to source some bar, but no idea what thickness I should be using as its to rusty to guess from? What's left of my flat bar looks to be about the width of a old wooden school ruler.

In that case a good starting point would be the SVA manual which has a section on seatbelt anchorages. I owuld expect the seats to withstand the same forces that the seatbelts have to so thus have the same requirements. I will have to look at this, a long way into my project, as I have replaced the floor of the VW pan and will be bracing the new ones with some u-section or bars. Not much help I know but my 10p worth!

Yes i think you are right, I would have thought that the minimum should be angle steel rather than flat bar. especially in the seat belt areas. But what would i know i've only got an RV

If I remember correctly I think that the mounting bolts have to be captive and that I was going to achieve this by using some U section with the nut welded to it. That would speard the load and meet the regulations at the same time.

Had time over the festive season to give my floor area another good coat of looking at! (SS ford based). I'm now thinking the best option is to cut out the fibre glass floor completely. Grind off all the rusty flat bar and put some type of box metal floor in its place, which can then be welded to the chassis. This hopefully should then give me few extra inches clearance inside, to stop my bonce hitting the roof, Better anchorage for the seatbelts and role cage. I also like the idea of some metal between me and the speed bumps. I guess I could then join the shell to the metal floor with fibreglass.

Floor had to come out, if I do one side at a time should keep it all safe. Drivers floor removed and you can just see the old flat bar whats left. Having a proper metal floor in their.

Don't forget to treat it before final assembly or it will rust again quick as a flash.
