evening all, I recently got myself a ford based SS, its mostly all there although the wiring is fubar .... one thing it doesnt have is a wiper mechanism, do any of you have any recomendations as to what I could use please > also, mines came with 17 inch alloys with low profile rubber, which I dont think it suits .... after looking at some of the pictures on this site it would seem that the car suits big fat rubber, any recommendations as to what size wheels/tyres I should consider .... I've included a couple of photos .... its sitting way too high at the moment .... thats yet another thing in the list of things to fix ...

your doors seem to line up well, are your hinges good?
I think everybody uses wolfrace slot mags, the old style, you can get them on ebay quite cheap.

the drivers door hinges are fine, but the passenger one at the rear has in the past seized in the tube that runs through the door, this means that the pin which is meant to slide into the tube snapped off from the base of the hinge, the pin is still stuck in the tube .... havent got it out yet, looks like I'll have to cut it off flush and carefully drill it out .... one of my friends is good at fabricating stuff ... he's got several years experiance of welding while restoring his huge collection of mark 3 Cortina's .... he's already given me rear springs as my car didnt have springs at all on the back when I got it ...

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone what know what the back lights on my SS are from ?. I've seen some other SS's with the same lights. theres no obvious markings on them to tell me who made them ...

yet another question. about springs this time. my SS had original Cortina springs which made it sit sky high cos the SS is so much lighter than the original doner car. so I did the usual thing of cutting coils off till the car got to the right height. but as i'm sure most of you will know this means that when I jack the car up the springs fall out of place as their not long enough now to take up the slack. I dont expect the MOT man would be too impressed by that. does anyone have any suggestion about how to get around this ? I imagine that back in the day there would have been special springs available just for the purpose but I dont expect to find any of them around ....

Just bolt some heavy webbing straps between top and bottom mounts so the spring is still seated at full drop or fit shorter dampers.

You will also find Brett that cutting the springs also makes them a bit stiffer. This will probably suit you as the car will roll less when cornering. Another solution to your loose springs would be to do a bit of cutting and welding and fit coil overs, then you can play about easily with springs.

IF the bottom end fitting can be unscrewed from the damper rod, most can, extend the thread by the same amount you copped the sping, (Don't chop and then thread )and then chop off the surplus and refit the end fitting.

thanks for your ideas, not sure if my shockers come apart, think I might go for the shorter shocker option. I'm as well trying this out before I get to the stage where the body gets dropped back on. much better access ;D
thanks
