As you may have noticed on other threads the Eagle P21 ex Q370VAB is now in France after a short stay in Germany where the drivers position was changed from right to left.
The car is in perfect condition and shows only 8,000 miles on the clock. I,ve gone into all the past MOTs and it adds up.
QUESTION ?
Does anyone have ideas as to what may have been done to the 1982 engine before it was put into this 1992 car ?
I can see that the oil sump has been cut short. The camshaft shows no signes of wear. Did this Pinto get a rebuild ? Were the valve seats made good for unleaded petrol ?
The only clue that I have is the Dutton car list that shows that Q370VAB was in Somerset and was built/owned by m stanford.
As a rough guide, if the factory colour of the rocker cover is black, and not blue it is an unleaded engine as I recall from my mispent youth with capri's many years ago. Check the block casting number too if its a 2 litre as that will tell you a lot. But chances are that an 82 engine is a blue rocker cover engine that was originally attached to a 4 speed gearbox
Still will be ok on unleaded but stick to e5 premium fuel. Still rubbish fuel but not as destructive as e10 for your carb
E 5 in UK is normally 99 octain.
But any 1982 Pinto engine ( or any engine ) would not have been converted to run on Unleaded petrol 15 to 20 years before the introduction of unleaded fuels being all you can get.
You need a lead suppliment additive and ethonal reducer added to your petrol tank.
And 20 / 50 MINERAL engine oil which contains Zinc which is now banned in petrol engine oils, but is NEEDED in older engines, as is the lead suppliment.
Diesel oils contain zinc.
They say synthetic oils ruin your older engines.
and this is your choice, I use Molyslip oil additive all my pre 2005 engines. probably up to pre 2012 years to be safe.
