Hi Folks, again for my absence of late.. Just seems to be so much going on, not VW related though unfortunately. Wiring is the next project on it, and, if I can get my head around it, I'd like to lift the back end up on the torsion units... not uncommon for Beetles to 'sag' over the years and my memories from when I first got it were to contemplate that. I've also been experimenting with a colour to paint the car.. it will be easier for me to use this Matt Green.... NOT to impersonate, or be seen to be trying, a USA military 'vehicle'.. but personally I think this may just suit the car... Not sure what my long term intentions with the car are either... but hoping these next few colder months get gone and then I can work more comfortably out there and decide.... Hope all's well with everyone! Titch

Hi Folks, Well, it hasn't been much of a decent time for me getting out into the workshop of recent.. So much so that I'm beginning to think that I may not even get to finishing the car due to other commitments & health etc.. I may be making a considered decision soon.. not where/when I'm going to post it on here.. but my question is do I keep the car??

Always a difficult decision. Im at a point with mine where it either goes back on the road this year or it goes. Ive had it 16 years.
Looks like youve got alot of the hard work done. You can purchase a loom and its not a huge job fitting it.
If you decide to part with it, I dont think it will be that hard to sell. There is always somebody looking for an RV and yours is about the only VW based one around.
Im eagerly waiting for the weather yo warm up a bit so I can get cracking with the car again. Maybe some warm weather might help you decide.

Hi Chris, yes.. not fully decided yet.. I have totally enjoyed what I've done so far.. let's hope when it warms up, that makes me think differently.. My lad is over at this weekend, so I may just ask him if he's got time this year to help me.. not getting any younger these days... I would like to use my workshop for the main passion of my life.. HD! but would like a decent bike lift OR adapt the one I've used with the car... Decisions, decisions... But yes, you're right, it's quite unique being an original VW one! Regards,Titch

It would be great if you could get this car on the road again, I have only ever seen one, that was at Newark around 2012. Unfortunately the car had a crash and got written of so that was the end of that. There is always something more important or of higher priority that gets in the way of kit car work as I find out. Even now as semi retired I have lots of jobs to do and sometimes the entheusiasm isn't there either lol.

Hi All, having a bit of a revamp with my ideas on the VW RV.. got a good friend helping me out soon with the wiring etc.. I seemed to have lost confidence in doing or even starting it.. but.... as my friend says 'it wants doing' . And indeed, he is correct.. so I've now got it back in my workshop and just need to clear a bit more space so we can get right around the car.. Two heads are going to better than mine (three quarters of a head sometimes) and I am really looking forward to some headscratching.. Intention is to use new wire where we can and I will make a drawing of the colours etc we use if changed from original. I'll update on here asap.. Titch

Glad to hear you're continuing with your project Titch. It'll be great once it's complete. I find that as long as I'm enjoying working on things its Ok, and often some of those daunting tasks aren't so bad once you're working through them. I've yet to tackle the loom on mine though!

Hi There, yes it's back in the workshop now.. Putting the engine back on this weekend hopefully, which will help me make a start on wiring postioning and layouts etc... Gotta start somewhere.. Just got another starter motor, points/plugs etc ordered as a 'fresh' start for the big day! Titch

Well, the weekend (long one) didn't run as planned.. ineveitably.. But, starting to put the tinwork etc back onto the engine at last.. a few new bits on their way hopefully next week.. but I have started on it. Idea being to put the complete engine back onto the gearbox then I can correctly route my wiring loom.. working from the engine.. inevitably the back of the car.. Work commitments will keep this all at a steady pace, but I shall update on the progress as it moves along.. Titch

Yet again folks, other commitments take over, but.. engine is getting sorted slowly. 'J' tubes on now but that has caused a problem with locating the correct exhaust with the spacing between the tubes.. but that's VW 'stuff' really..but we're getting there.. This weekend is again FULL of other commitments and I do wonder if I'm ever going to finish this car sometimes.. but, I do look forward to striking the engine once it's back on the car.. yes, I know too it can be done on the stand.. but.. Also I want to get some plugs for the cooling tinwork, as the J tubes are taking over the 'heating' which I don't feel is necessary for an open top motor... and the weight of those heat exchangers when I'd got them off.. blimey.. totally uneccesary really... I will do more asap folks.. Titch

It sounds like more steady progress! Every bit done is a bit less to do (I keep telling myself!)

Yes it is really!! Simply ticking off the 'to do' list.. I just don't seem to get time to get back to it often these days.. My intention though is to get the engine back in and wiring all done this winter at the latest.. I shall probably put it up for sale next year if the truth were known.. I do want to use it for a few months.. but then I desperatley want my workshop back for other 'projects' which in reality means space to work on my mowers and bikes! However, slowly but surely, ... 'Watch This Space' as they say.................
