Yep.. slowly but surely, it will happen more through the winter..as this w/shop is my second home then. Bit tight in there with the 'lift' and my homemade 'table' but it sure beats crouching down on the floor when I do all the brakes etc Wheels ready to get blasted and painted, then some new rubber on them. Idea is get all the brakes done, put the wheels back on and then drop her down..might be a few weeks yet though...

Wheels ready to get blasted and painted, Get drums blasted too, as these will show through the spoked wheels. New ones are cheap enough. Paint with high temp paint. ( Yellow ? )

Ah yes, used similar before.. I'll put a picture of mine on when the car's off it.. cumbersome..but very very useful.. Here's the wheels..not flatted back & perfect, but very very tidy & some like new part worns, balanced and fitted now in readiness..couldn't get them to alter the dates on the previous tyres.... I know my ryes are barely scrubbed in but will need replacing, don't trust old rubber to grip.

Well, in fairness the car had stood still for the past 10 years or so, new tyres were imminent.. Done ALL brake rebuilds now, painted drums, painted wheels..a big stage in progress I feel now...

don't trust old rubber to grip. I got some Ford cortina old alloy wheels with tyres, fitted them, and at first roundabout, in the dry, spun 180 Degrees, to face oncoming traffic. NOT recommended from my experience.
Which leads me to replace the Eagle 33 year old , 6000 mile useage tyres ! when original wheels are sandblasted / replaced.

Good to see some good progress. Strange seeing the pedals halfway down the floor like that, explains the gear-shift behind the handbrake now, you must be sitting in the rear seat area,

Yes Peter, a bit more progress. Yes too, sitting position is quite far back.. in fact the rear seats are above the engine itself..?? I can see some tractor weights needed for the front end!!

Sorted the fee's to the club via Graham now. Next quest... is to make up a basic wiring loom for the car.. I would use the original loom, but, what's left of it and damage so I'd rather like to start from scratch, if it's within my ability, so that I know all is new, relevant and nicely/neatly done.. i shall print off a copy of it for any potential future owner or indeed for my reference if ever needed.. However, it's seemingly somewhat daunting me.. anyone have any ideas please?? Kit Car loom/Hot Rod loom etc ?? Thanks all, Titch

£ 280 to £ 300 -- don't bother with making your own to save £ 300, AND you will see all the connectors for relays, switches, rectifyer ( if dynamo ) etc etc etc

Hi Titch, I have been following your rebuild with interest. I am going through a similar rebuild and my plan is to use a loom from a Mk4 escort I bought off ebay for £40, (no ecu's etc, just a basic complete loom) I will be using the indicator stalks too so it should be straight forward, although this might not work for you it was just intended as an idea. Good luck, Regards Peter

Hope you're all well... Titch Welcome back lol. I have a question, is the front wings section on the vw rv normally removable or have you cut it off. I have thought of doing this to mine, years ago I had a Rickman space ranger and the front was detachable. Very handy.

Hi there, & Thanks! No on the VW based one it's totally separate as mine.. It was very nicely 'butted' against the 'bulkhead' of the main body too. So well, with large flat steel plates that I struggled once they were off to separate them..only to discover a nice thin & strong matt of fibreglass bonded it together too. Titch

Yes Terry, they reckon a Beetle body complete would bolt straight on my floorpan.. which I'm confident it would. But, The seating would require all new and that handbrake of mine...? Titch
