I am starting to sort out my recently aquired RV and, since I know nothing worthwhile about these cars yet, would appreciate some help if anyone can advise. I have looked for a VIN plate without success. Is it normal for an RV to have no VIN plate or is it likely that mine is missing? If it is normal for a VIN plate to be present, where should I look for it please? Many thanks. Dave.

Pretty sure mine has a little alloy plate, riveted to the chassis. In the engine bay, I think. I'll try and have a proper look tomorrow.

On the 'Ford' chassis there should be a plate on the left member by the engine. There is are 'unofficial' VIN plates from the E.O.C. but I don't know if Helen (helenjlee1@aol.com) has any left in the 'shop'. it looks like this. I have one on my SS. Letraset on alloy. Later one; which I don't think got made in alloy like the early ones. As it is NOT a proper 17 number/leter VIN it is not recognized by MoT but even if the Eagle RV carries the original Ford's Reg number the chassis number would still be the Eagle one. "Once you have verified that the VIN is definitely less than 17 characters, the VIN is most likely from a pre-1981 vehicle. Prior to 1981, VINs varied in length from 11 to 17 characters. Therefore, information on vehicles manufactured before 1981 is limited."

My vin plate is just a riveted on piece of tin As you look under the bonnet, it's on the angled member that rises up, to the left of the radiator.

I had a Roy Budd ( last eagle cars manufacturer - Eagle cars )Ford chassis RV, and present ford chassis eagle SS, and none of them had / have these plates on. So don't expect to find one.

A lot of them were either removed or fell off. there should be a number in the V5c if there is a V5c. if not make one up, I am sure one of the RV guys will give you an idea what to put, just go 300 or so higher to be sure not to duplicate an existing one.
There are TWO RV chassis, early one followed the VW beetle footprint as the first RVs were VW based so they kept the floor and made the chassis to fit the body and the later one a straight ladder frame.
