Hi chaps, new to this forum, bought a yellow RV a few months ago and we love it. Intend joining the Eagle Owners Club asap. Just a heads up, bought the moulds for the doors and the hard top last week. We work in fibre glass occasionally, so we fancy a go at making our own roof and doors. If this works out ok, we'll may knock out a few for club members, (if any ones interested), and time permits. If any one has details of where to get door furniture, roof bits, windows, catches etc, even drawings, it would be a great help. Also need help in determining what Haynes manuals I should be getting hold of. Regards, Andy Pictures of the engine code, think it's May 1982

Hi, welcome. The rv was based mainly on 3 platforms, the cortina, and the serria and the landrover. (There is a vw base but rare). Which running gear do you have? If two wheel drive then serria or Cortina, if the rear Axel is beam then probably cortina. Is there any pictures?
I have an old hard top and a couple of assets of hard doors, again there appear to be a couple of different versions. The version changes the hardware.

Doz, many thanks, web sites are really good.
I've added a few pictures including one of the engine code, which is hard to read, but I think its May 1982, I've been told it's a 2ltr Ford Pinto, and thats all I know.
When it stops raining, I'll take some photos of the drive train etc. Thanks for helping, really appreciate the help.

With a pinto, it is probably a serria, but could be a mix and match.

I've just got my black RV on the road with a new engine (zetec). Allegedly it was a factory demonstrator at one time. It's Sierra based and previously had a Rover V8 in it - a pity about the chassis member they cut out to fit it in (now replaced)!
Anyway regarding doors, mine has wind up windows which is nice. However having been a classic Mini fan i can't help noticing that some of the door internals including window runners and seals and door catch seem to have been cut out of one of those (or perhaps it might have been another of the same era as the winders themselves seem not to have been used). I can't work out how the front quarter lights are fitted though
Also both hard top and door insides have been coated in a stipply pattern that i suspect is not part of the moulding
The engineering of the door is actually quite poor and I can easily see how it could be improved with better ridgidity, easier to assemble and things like electric windows.
finally does anyone know if the RV mouldings were taken from an original jeep? They are pretty good - and just maybe Jeep doors would fit.....

Oh yes and after alot of research into pictures of other cars of the same era I eventually identified the exterior door handle as being from a Volvo 340 (rear doors without key holes). Other models form that time also seem to use the same ones. Not particularly good actually and prone to breaking but they're in place and working. The key holes are Sierra on mine although I've had to alter the winding window, glass attachment in order to gain clearance. Perhaps the lockable front door type would have been better. I'd imagine that the Leyland flap style handle as used in Allegros, Marinas (and Lotus Esprit!) would do quite well on this flat panel. They also continued on Landrover Discovery for many years. Not sure about the actual latches though. Not Leyland/Mini, maybe also Volvo

GRRRR! I have just broken not just one but BOTH of the Volvo 340 door handles on my Sierra based RV. One the actual lifting handle has broken but the other is some other fault that I havn't looked at yet These handles had both been repaired already so I have to say that my analysis is that not only are Volvo 340 door handles very rare (on ebay), they are also crap!
So I'm interested in another solution. Like I said previously the leyland Marina/ Allegro/ TR7/ Discovery flap handles look like they might fit (but of course the actual latches would likely also have to be changed - sigh more work)
What types of locks/ handles have other people got?

Just to say I was able to get the handles replaced after all. The Discovery/Marina ones didnt fit at all (too thick for the door) and Volvo 240 ones are no good either (look similar but are longer). Anyway I managed to get some 340 handles. In fact I was able to dismantle a front door handle and use it to repair my broken rear one, without door locks as those are separate. The other one want broken after all. The door key locks are from a Sierra or similar ford and they are a pain to stop interfering with the window winding mechanism. I've got it all working but I am seriously wondering about removing the door key holes altogether as I've got remote central Locking. If the battery went flat or something it would be that hard to get in from the back...
BTW, is there actually any kind of standard Eagle RV door with wind up windows? All the ones I've seen are different. Mine has a taller front quarterlight glass than the main window

When I bought my RV from the factory, ( Rob Budd, - the last manufacturer,) they did not offer wind up windows, so yours could be a home modification.
