Hi All! Has anyone ever modified a Jeep hard top to fit a RV or cut one down to make a Halfcab? Rad.

A CJ7 or YJ wrangler roof will fit the tub, but the windscreen on the jeep is higher, so there will be a big gap at the top of the screen frame. I think someone on here did it a few years back but it certainly wasn't easy.

Thanks for that guys! The main reason for asking about using a jeep hardtop as an alternative is that rv hardtop seem to be as rare as rocking horse plop, and when one does come up it is on the moon. Will have to sit tight and see if anything comes up during the winter.

I ended up buying a hard top across the country and then worried about moving it. This actually turns out to be a lot easier than I thought. I think it ended up costing me £56 quid. I used uship I think it was. It is a reverse auction thing for shipping companies.

Thanks doz. I will look into this shipping option.I have always been under the impression that anything large or bulky has to be tied to a pallet. Cheers, Rad.

Just a quick note on this thread to mention a very simple mod I did at the weekend. My hardtop was attached by rubber clips/ hooks to the top of the windscreen even though the ones round the back were metal. I noticed alot of movement at the join between the screen and the hard top because being rubber the clips really were not strong enough to prevent it. So I've now rigged up some metal versions that use the same fixings as the rubber hooks, using some bolts welded to thick rod that I drilled a hole into. The tightening mechanism is now with a nut and spanner rather than stretching the rubber. Result! The hardtop is now rigid onto the screen - and it makes the whole car more rigid & less rattly
