Evening all,
As some will know I finally have my RV.
However, I have a problem. I can get her to start, and did idle slightly lumpy until we setup the points, new leads, new plugs, new dizzy etc. Now she starts and idles fine, but, when you try and rev it (unless its a gradual increase) she pops and backfires massivley out the carb. Before anyone moans, yes its a vv carb, but, these are good carbs when running correctly and has been running fine in the past. I have stripped the carb and cleaned it, all diaphrams are in good order, needle valves move freely and the fuel bowl/float chamber has a good level of fuel in it. The choke comes off when warm so am sure this is not the problem. When you try and drive her she pops bangs and jumps all over the place.
I have lined up the tdc marks on the crank pulley and appears to be in line with the cam shaft so timing i dont think is an issue and she is firing in the correct order of 1,3,4,2. Advancement is at 4 degrees (although I have only sighted this to the best i can as I dont have £40 for a timing light).
I am getting a good spark to all four plugs so know that there is a good ignition supply.
Does anyone have any ideas? The car is in Thetford but I live in romford so if there is anyone around that could possibly help and help get another rv back on the road that would be great.
Thank you,
James
