Now that I know there's a build board ( thanks Peter ) I'll start putting details of what I've been doing to my SS. expect hopefully to be going by the lockup tomorrow night so I'll put together a handful of photos to get it started. not them all as I've over 300 so far Brett

Go for it Brett, and anyone else feels like starting their own thread please do, try and continue to use photobucket or similar so as to save attachment space which is limited and should be used for small one off photos only, thanks. Peter

a wee update .... an essential item needed to do any restoration is power to run various tools ... this being a council lockup there isn't any. there is a water outlet very close by if I fancy washing the car but not much use for running a grinder ... I have had generators, starting with a little two stroke job which worked very well. recently picked up an kinda battered 4 stroke jenny which did work ... until recently when I was changing the front wings on my girlfriends 21 year old MX5 ( 21 year old fittings needed persuaded a little with a grinder lol ) and both jennys gave up on me so ... just acquired this last night ... bloke had got it to power a burger van but never got around to buying said van .. crossed his palm with silver and its now mine ... hope it lasts longer than the others not 100% sure what power it puts out but I have two 1.2 kw heaters and it runs both of them at the same time easily enough. the guy reckoned it generates over 3 kw ... haven't tested it to the max yet but since it runs those heaters easily he could be right Brett

Thanks for the info :-) where did you get it from ? I've been googling for the last couple of days but couldn't find that particular model. It's even got a little petrol gauge on top.

Brett Looks like a nice genny. I just put the details into Bing and got thirty or so results. All said more or less the same thing.

Bit of a strange one this. Body looks like a MkIII, certainly not a MkII and certainly later MkII/III doors/windows not the front hinged MkI side windows but it has an early squared off 'single scoop' Ford bonnet with the same ribs as the VW bonnet, not the later 'multi-bump' smooth fronted one and a ribbed VW boot which was early MkI Ford SS? (or they swapped it for mine which has a smooth Ford boot now ). The wheel arches look like they have been worked on (badly) as I have never seen that shape on a SS before and they do look a bit wider, check underneath to see if there is any sign of additional glass fibre or filler. Main thing is it is now in safe hands, I hope, and may one day see the road again.

Next time I'm by I'll have a look under the rear arches for signs of "fannying about". Apart from the fact that the previous owner John had it sitting outside for 6 or 7 years. and the previous "rescuers" breaking the passenger window and door hinge, and also helping themselves to all the spares its mostly all there and has a couple of extras my Eagle 1 doesn't have. there are braces coming from the from of the chassis to the nose to stop it flexing. and drain pipes in place in the boot along with a rubber seal in an attempt to redirect any rain coming in there. both good things that all SS's should have and my original SS doesn't have ... yet. it also I think already has a 5 speed gearbox and an electric fan on the radiator. basically I think this car was actually on the road at one point in the dim and distant past Brett

I quite like the headlight conversion, managed without hacking the apertures by the look too. next time you are by and apart from looking for signs of 'fannying about' check to see if they are a bolt in job and maybe some close up shots and an underneath shot too, (flash of course).

when I got Eagle 2 it came with a small amount of extra bits as shown below. looks to me like they came off a VW based SS. amongst other bits it meant I gained an intact screen not really spare though as Eagle 2's screen is cracked update .... when will we able to use something better than effin photobucket. something that needs me to sit for over half an our to try and remind myself how it works and failing .... is a pile of sh*t

I will take some pics of my SS this weekend and try to get them uploaded i am no computer geek but i am sure i will manage ,new set of clocks arrived from the USA today so looking forward to getting on with the electrics and sorting the demist heating out and the new wiper motor and pantograph wiper then i can put the dash back in , it was actually a doddle to take out as it is only held on by 4 x screws
I have already spent a small fortune getting the engine running just right and sorting out the cooling system and charging system now both spot on ,once I have got the dash back in need to sort horrible bang from the rear axle the noisy clutch ( might go for a five speed unless I am convinced otherwise ) then the brake, when I say brakes its actually more effective to put my hand out of the window as an air brake lol

Mind you if anyone can advise how to get a picture up then that would be appreciated , some other forums have the option at the bottom of the message to insert pics ive relied on that in the past, I tried to get some pics on this evening but so far no good ; (

there is a link on here explaining how to use photofukit, my gripe is that I just wish it was a bit simpler so that I didn't have to go through a learning process every time I try it p.s. Mr Dastardly I changed the gearbox in mine for a type 9 5 speed box. fits straight onto the Pinto engine but remember a possible change of clutch and a definite change of propshaft will follow. maybe not a major expense but getting a new end on the propshaft cost me about £80 ish if I remember.

Thanks i was lead to believe that the prop shaft only needed cutting down as the type 9 is slightly longer Did you have to make a new hole for the gear shift to come through? or does it still come up in the same place ?

the gearshift comes up in a slightly different place but its not too far out. minor alteration to the original hole will do. the type 9 gearbox has different splines from the 4 speed. so the 4 speed prop wont fit without changing the end. if your using a 5 speed prop though as you say it might just need shortening not sure where the link for adding photos is, i'll try and have a look for it later Brett

If you look closely at the previous picture you can see the tasteful chrome skull steering wheel which was held on by 3 tiny wood screws i kid you not ! but now its sorted with a quick release steering boss after a bit of fabricating /welding but now looks pukka

I've a local transmission specialist shop. I took along the type 9 gearbox and the old propshaft and basically asked if they could make one fit the other. The place has been there for years so didnt take them long to suss it out :-)

A quick hello from me .... I've finally got around to setting myself up on the new relocated forum. Basically I've done sweet f.a. to the SS for quite some time but it's calling my name .... or calling me names. One of the two. I've been by the lockup this week due to being on holiday and it being sunny. Had yet another tidy up and rearranged things so I could get in. Got myself a new daily runabout so I've been tinkering with that too.
