What kind of donor cars can i nick the rear axle from? current chassis/engine/front axel im led to believe is mk3 cortina no reason to suspect this is false just my rear axle has before been extremely modified and welded which looks to me like an mot failure. I will take pictures in the morning and if there are any testers reading please take a look and see what you think or anybody else personally?
description, has been modded with older leaf springs. if it will pass its mot ill keep them rath than faff about but i dont want to jack about and then find out ive got to change it.
all the best. Pete

Weird mod! Best axle is 2 litre - supposed to be stronger. According to the books the Mk 3, 4, and 5 were basically the same. Chaz.

i can see some brackets on the chassis to accept the original cortina trailing arms so could be converted back,, or have a look at chaz's ss to see how to go the seirra route,

cheers, yes im hoping the conversion back will be more or less possible, i really dont want to have to wait ages sourcing a new axle. although i imagine sourcing the parts to convert back will be just as hard! ha...but i was a pro at wheres wally so i should be able to sort something out.
looking forward to stoneleigh! dragging my sisters along for the day on monday. hope the suns a gleaming!!

Brake lines are definitely a fail and it would be a brave (or stupid) MoT tester who put is mark on an MoT for that, I would never have, and that was many (lenient) years ago. That looks lie a start from scratch job, as well as Chaz's SS Sierra conversion the one at Stones will be Sierra based, (or so I'm told.) Rust on the chassis would mean a body off and de-scaling anyway.

yes ill be redoing all the brake lines once ive sorted out the axle. took out all the bolts yesterday so the body is ready to be lifted. doctor says im not allowed to do any heavy lifting what with fracturing my spine and all so ive got to wait for my mates to pop round and lend me their strength! think i shall also invest in a air compressor. (50lite 2hp) and a air hammer with needle de-scaling tool. also a sandblasting. already bought some rustoleum to apply afterwards so hopefully (i say hopefully i am no doubt going to face a warren of problems when i remove the body) but its all good practice im sure!!
what kind of things are on sale at stoneleigh in relation to the eagle rv and its donor vehicles?

MK3 CORTINA ESTATE.
^Are the axles on this the same as on the normal mk3 cortina or a completely different kettle of fish?

I'm no expert on all cortina's but i know the Mk4 estate axle was the same as saloon as that is what i fitted to my RV .

choose the correct ratio to suit your needs if possible
early models
I believe 1600 saloon type A salisbury 3.89:1
1600 option and estate 4.11:1
all 2000 type B salisbury 3.75:1
2300 higher again I think 3.09:1
later models
1600 optional 3.78:1
2000 saloon 3.45:1
2000 estate 3.75:1
I am looking for a 2.3 axle or 2.0 estate as the ratios in our Rv is all wrong affecting the auto changes.
I know finding the correct one may mean a long time consuming search.

I wouldn't mind replacing mine in the future to drop the gearing, not that there is any trouble pulling it as there seems to be 'sufficient' power from the new engine, but 5th seems to be geared for about 200 mph ;D ;D

cortina 2.3 estate cars had a heavy duty axle on them, best one to get as the diff is the same as the old "atlas" axle, shafts are thicker as well so its nice and strong, the main advantage though is that a capri 2.8i special LSD will go straight into it.

After driving it today for some considerable miles, anyone know of a good axle with a 4.11:1 ratio? The big wheels and the 5 speed box mean way too tall gearing.

another usefull point about the 2.3 heavy duty axle is that as its atlas sized, a sierra P100 ring gear and pinion will fit it and they are REALLY low geared.

OK then, one of those would do the job admirably!
