Those of you who are interested will recall that I am fitting a 2.9 EFI V6 into my RV. As usual with these things progress is sporadic and it has taken me ages to get the engine into the car (waiting for engine mounting brackets).
Well the engine is now in and things are starting to get put back together. Just a few things that are starting to come to mind during the rebuild and wondering if anyone has any experience they could share with me on the following;
Brake servos The V6 donor had ABS which does away with the servo. I therefore have no take-off to supply a vacuum to the cortina servo. Solutions may include tapping the inlet manifold to create a vacuum supply or using some kind of electric motor to provide an independant vacuum?
Radiators Would it matter if the rad was installed upside down? Due to the brackets etc the rad won't fit between the frame rails the right way up but is OK upside down. It is a sealed rad with an inlet and an outlet and no other complications.
Power steering I've installed a power steering rack and the engine has a pump already fitted and belted. I now just need to plumb it in. Is this as straight forward as I am assuming or is there something i am overlooking?
Soft top frame I bought a new soft top recently but still have no frame. I can make (or have made) another but some photos and measurements would come in handy. Any RV owners able to help?
Got brain ache now so will leave it at that for the time being. Look forward to the range of answers I will receive.

1. The brake servo for my EFI Sierra is tapped off from the plenum(?) chamber. Didn't realize there was no servo on the V6! 2. If it's the 2.0 DOHC/V6 rad then it's a crossflow. In theory it should work as well upside down? Make sure you backflush it before fitting! 3. I need the same answer as I will fit power steering to mine! Chaz (SS)

1. The brake servo for my EFI Sierra is tapped off from the plenum(?) chamber. Didn't realize there was no servo on the V6! Thanks for that Chaz, I have now found a drilled and plugged hole on the rear of the plenum chamber and think i will use that to feed the servo. 2. If it's the 2.0 DOHC/V6 rad then it's a crossflow. In theory it should work as well upside down? Make sure you backflush it before fitting! I have tried again today and don't think it will even fit upside down as the outlet fouls the suspension arm Will try to get it lower to ensure enough clearance or will be looking for a slightly narrower rad! Thanks for the heads up StuM, no rush on that, just finishing touches really. Not too worried about the cold, it will only be a summer, top-off use anyway and the hood is just in case it rains. Typical though, I have a hard top and doors!!!? Maybe we should swap!

Well I have fitted it to Cortina based cars before but had all the kit at the time. I do know that there is a big loop that usually goes in front of the rad to act as a cooling pipe for the power steering fluid. So basically there are two outlets from the pump and two into the power steering. I guess the difficulty is knowing which one is in and which is out? When I find out, I'll let you know. Whilst on the topic of rebuilds etc.... I worked out last night that I've got about 12 weeks to get this RV's engine running (including wiring and fuelling obviously), new brakes fitted, new suspension, painted and trimmed.!!!! Now bearing in mind I only really get a chance to work on it (typically) every other weekend that leaves 1 1/2 days for six weeks....... 9 days!!!! ....... .... ...................HELP!

Got it saved thanks David. Lost the power rack on e-bay! - Too expensive. Will measure up the Sierra one I have except....
When I renovated the front suspension I counted the turns on the tie rod nuts so I could replace them in exactly the same place. However (there's always a however in kitcars!) I have just realized the nice new poly bushes were a different thickness from the old rubber ones. Hence the tie rods are now in out of position. I will delay the power steering until the V6 is in, the spring ride height finalized, and the steering geometry professionally set up. Then I will know how heavy it really is. Simon's is nice and light. Nobody else has forearms like Popeye, so maybe I'm a woss or the tie rods the geometry is a bit out. We'll see. Chaz.

Update! Got a new fuel tank being made to incorporate the Scorpio's pump and sender unit to do away with the need for all the other bits and pieces. Adaptor been machined by a bloke locally to get the air filters to fit the AFM's. Blokes from PIRTEK supposed to be coming to look at the power steering to get it all piped up. So generally just waiting for other people at the moment which is very frustrating. Getting a bit fed up with lack of progress, I just want to hear it running. Somebody say something to improve my lack of enthusiasm please.

Just an update for those interested. Now got fuel lines, new tank being made to order using the original pump and filter assembly. This should be ready in the next few days. Scorpio rad in and plumbed. Daewoo electric fan mounted (dunno why the Scorp had a Daewoo fan with it, it also had the thermo-viscous jobbie too : Washer bottle mounted and wired (more difficult than you might think) Battery box built and installed Bonnet bracket and gas rams installed and adjusted Exhaust roughly mounted but need some decent 'over-axle' pipes to get clear of the cortina rear suspension etc Most of wiring done, just need to patch in the scorpio ECU To do Wire ECU Add fuel tank Add fluids F I R E Strip the whole thing down Decide on paint Paint Rebuild MOT another RV back on the road........ ;D ;D ;D (insert the manic laughter of a madman..... ;D ;D ;D)

Fire it up test it make sure it will work get it Moted and forget the rest so we can see it in the flesh. I know I have a "few" projects but believe it or not the wife has started to take a shine to RV's so having a good look at one would be great, I'm not telling her just yet though as all the other projects would be shelved until she stopped moaning about her car not getting done or something like that.

Well it wont make Stoneleigh, I'm going on holiday on Monday and not back till next weekend. Hope to make to some of the other shows this year though.
I'm sure there will be some good RV's coming out of the woodwork soon. Hopefully a couple will attend Stoneleigh too.
