Hi! My name is John Norman, 59 years, based in Kent and shortly migrating to the Costa Blanca. I'm taking my Mk11 RV with me having almost finished rebuilding it. It now stands 7" taller and sports Scorpio V6 running gear and drive train. I've got two problems to sort out and would appreciate any advice I can get. Problem 1: I need a new windscreen. Where do I get one? Problem 2: I possess a set of hard doors with wind up windows. they are the worst example of laying up I have ever come across and I would really like to get a pair of soft doors, (not zip ups) or a set of the old flat hard doors with the sliding windows. Any info. would be most welcome. This may seem like a gripe but whilst I love the car, I just want to get rid of the drafts! Once It is finished I will post a picture. Watch this space!

Hi John,
I've got an RV with the flat hard doors and sliding windows, they flap about and are draughty too. I wanted some with windy up windows thought they would be better, sounds like I might be dissappointed from your comments.
Don't know about the screen, the good thing is that it's flat so should be able to get one made?

That sounds interesting, how will that work? Is it similar to the Ford system or just a heated element on the lower edge? Presumably one wouldn't then need to worry about a heater to vent into the screen.

I'd be interested if someone would fit it for me, otherwise I'd be too worried I'd break it.
You really ought to bring this racing RV to Stoneleigh, I for one would be very interested to see it. I've quite fancied doing some off road competition, not in my new and soon to be shiny RV but something altogether more appropriate.

The wind up window doors probably came out of the moulds too soon. The problem with them is that they don't fit the contours of the door apature. Consquently there are emormous gaps , especially at the top of the doors and it seems that the only way to overcome this is to seperate the inner and outer skins and then start bending things. I can't be asked! It will probably be easier for me to design and make new doors. Trouble is the impending journey to the new home in Spain which it now appears will happen in january. Too cold to go doorless! If Ido get it sorted there could a pair of wind up doors going begging. I also suspect it would relatively easy to stiffen up the old Flat doors, so I'm in the market for swaps/ adjusted cash/ or even a straight purchase.

I am in the process of making some fibreglass half doors which I intend to drop a framed soft upper half onto when the hood is being used. If you are interested I'll add you to the list, can't be sure I'll get them done by January though!

Hi John,
My flat doors have similar issues, big gaps at the top, doors don't match the A pillar or hard top. I was thinking of cutting & rewelding the steel reinf to bring the tops of the doors inboard but not sure it's worth the effort as the sliding windows are not great either. If you do end up with your current doors surplus to requirements I may be interested to try to modify them. Let me know, might even think about a swap if your'e convinced you prefer the flat type. Do you have any pictures? I can get some of my flat doors.
Chris.

Hi John. Regarding your windscreen. Look in the yellow pages under “Glass”, and then for “Plant glass”. These are companies who replace broken windows in agricultural vehicles and JCB’s and the like. They come out to you and cut and fit the glass. I’m not sure if you will need a template or not, you’ll have to ask them. This how I replaced my windscreen with laminated glass, and they even etched it with the correct kite mark incase the MOT man wasn't happy. Mine cost about £80 fitted. Also I'm going to Costa Blanca for the year in about Feb-March. Not sure if I’ll be taking my RV though, because I’m worried that if it breaks down I might not be able to get parts etc. When I’m there I will drop you a line and we can get together. Good luck with the RV doors. Bfn, Jeff.

Hi John, Hi Chrisrv, I don't know if I'm using this board properly but if this appears I must be doing something right. It sound like the same problems apply to both types of door but I may could be interested in a swap. I will post door pictures in the next few days. Let's see what we've got.

Will photograph my doors, not so easy at the moment as it's in the garage (working on the chassis). If they come out OK will post them later in the week.
