No I dont think you can fit a flat bonnet due to the very tall plenum chamber of the rover v8, You might be able to cut it out of a flat bonnet but I dont think it would look great. BTW where abouts are you located and have you got any pictures of the mk2 dash? I need a dash and it might look better if I use the original.

Cool, Ben has a board on this forum on his build as well as the euro-nova forum. I think hes nearly finished building it. The rover V8 will sit lower but the electronic fuel injection uni sits very high on those engines, somebody has built an SS with a rover v8 with a holley carb on it and I think even that was sticking out the bonnet. When you get the mould sorted let me know ;D

That would be Jason mudplugger who built a V8 SS
Sounds like you are an old hand at this kit stuff. PM me and we can chat about 'old school' stuff etc, so not trying to teach egg sucking but a lot of other people read this and it might help them too.
One of the few engines that would fit under a flat bonnet would be a Subaru, (2.2 twin turbo, nice but rare) or a Alpha 1.7 boxer. V8 would look and sound good but there are better power to weight ratio engines out there as you well know, like the Vauxhall red tops as used in a lot of Lotus 7 etc. even my 2.3-16v Mercedes Cosworth will give 187hp in standard trim and due to all alloy is about same weight. They pop up on Ebay from £400 (plus a gearbox) and that pushes a heavy car up to 145mph (this I know) ;D. How about a Porche flat 6 as a option? Boxer flat or cross flow head is the only way to get the height down. Mind you, if you are starting with a £99 Ford based SS why not keep the Cortina front end but stuff a transverse mid engine into the rear as was to done on the MKIV SSR (MR2 based). There would be a LOT of options on that route from BMC Mini to 2.7 V6 and not that difficult to do, certainly no more so than a Rover V8 in the front which will need all new mountings and tunnel etc. tip, but it's warning I repeat as often as possible even if it doesn't apply; do not exceed your perceived capabilities, skills, finances or work space or you WILL end up with an expensive garden ornament.
