Ok, I did say the stupid questions would start very soon so here goes........................ From the information that I have been reading about the RV it looks as though its based on the old Ford Cortina? Could I use a Sierra Engine and parts I have been offered a 2Lt 4x4 Ghia X and would love to use the engine and other parts from this car in the RV but like I said I am so new to this and can't find the information I am looking for Has anyone fitted a 4X4 Sierra engine into an RV ? Is there anything MAJOR I have to watch out for ? Thanks in advance Colin

you can get £300 for the rear diff and swingarm assembly with the disc brakes etc on ebay for a start, as this is a sought after kitcar component, chas has fitted the seirra set up in place of the cortina diff to his car for better handling,, as for engine,, take a pic and we will see what it is , crossflow pinto cvh

Well, the chances are that the engine will drop in fairly easily, the gearbox and drivetrain will not be quite such a straightforward job. The engine in the RV (and I guess SS) sits further back in relation to the front axle assembly and the front diff (which I guess is integral to the sump).
Even if it were possible the whole of the suspension would need to be swapped. Its just not an easy job to make a four wheel drive Cortina!
But nothing is impossible! ;D

Assuming the 2.0lt is the same setup as the 2.8. The front propshaft/driveshaft and front diff is in the sump so that would be the first major mod. To fit the running gear complete and make it 4x4 would require a new chassis/total rebuild/modification of the existing chassis/car. Far better IMO to find a 2wd sierra from the outset

There has been a 4x4 SS so it can be done, (unfortunatly fell fowl of the SVA trap and is off the road for good)

I shall take some photos of the engine thats in the RV when I collect it on sat so hopefully someone might know what it is Many Many thanks for the replys. What a very nice bunch of people you all are ;D Colin

OK, here's another stoopid answer........
Assuming you have a good welder fitting the Sierra rear is not to bad. The Photo's in the thread on fitting the Sierra axle should make it fairly clear and there should be more room to work with in an RV - also remember I made my conversion harder than necessary by moving the brakes inboard. Secondly the engine does not sit further back in the SS as it uses the original mounts of the front sub-frame. I feel you should be able to squeeze the front of the Sierra system in there somehow although you may need chassis/subframe mods. Plenty of kits use the Sierra front suspension and there should be room in the RV - unlike the SS. The overall major datum points of the Cortina and Sierra are surprisingly similar. I didn't even have to modify the length of the SS/Cortina prop. Good Luck with whatever you decide! Chaz

Many Thanks for that Chaz We have decided to wait and see what the RV is like when we collect it and have had a chance of digging deeper. My boss has got a 2.0Lt Sierra Ghia X (NOT the 4x4) sat on his drive (very very large drive ) LOL I have spoken to him about the RV and he is more than happy for me to have the car and use what I want from it. So rather than buy another car I will have a free one ;D About time things started going in the right direction for us, looks like getting this RV was a good omen Photo's will be posted on satuday Eve so you can see what we have let ourselves in for Cheers Colin , Just a big kid getting excited when I should know better
