Ok Guys, This has absolutely nothing to do with cars but, as you all come from different walks of like you may have some idea how I can tackle this problem. I live in a really rural place & it is lovely (Simon knows, he has seen it!). Last year a group called the Marlowe Trust, who run homes for disadvantaged children bought the house nesrest to us. They didn't need planning permission as it is run as a "home" & they are only allowed a max of 6 (incl carers) living there. Since then our life has been made hell by the anti social behaviour of the children & the carers. Their security light shines over our land, they chuck litter around, the carers hang round in groups outside our house (managed to stop this, after a year), we've been sworn at (tho that has stopped now), had stuff thrown into the garden, had them walk across our plants etc. I can just about live with that but I cannot stand the screaming, shouting & swearing that disrupts our evenings & weekends. I couldn't invite people over to enjoy a barbeque any more because it is no longer pleasant to sit outside in the garden. We specifically moved here for the peace & quiet. Any suggestions? I have been to the police & I have spoken to the council. The police have a lot of trouble with them & are really sympathetic. At the moment I am reporting every disturbance to them - at least once a weekend then! I am keeping a log, as advised. I have now also spoken to the CSCI, who are responsible for the regulation of this place. They are meant to be meeting with the management of the home to try to find a way forward, but if this doesn't work it will be another spring & summer of hell here. Any ideas (legal ones!)? I will eventually go to environmental health, but I am really worried that I don't have a strong enough case & that I wont be able to get them to quieten down. Some of the other neighbours have complained also, but we get the brunt of their behaviour as we are closest, so I think I will struggle to get them to back me up.......there are only a few of us anyway this isn't to do with cars, but I am getting desperate! Cheers, Samm x P.S The management of the home don't give a toss about the impact they have had

to hear of the trouble Linda. I have no first hand experience (thankfully) but do believe Peter's advice (on another thread) to be sound. Keep recording the incidents (video or audio if possible) and badger your councillors, they will have a 'surgery' local to you to attend. Try your MP if you get no joy with the council. It is a slow job to get this fixed but, I'm sure, worth the effort. Good luck and keep us posted, it might just help if you a relaying it to somebody.

in all seriousness linda, i cant see the local authorities wanting to do much bout it, because they will look bad if they close it down, and theyhave located it in a rural place away from every one (appart from you)...... think youll just have to wait till all the special needs kids get carted away to an asylumn......
how ever for a small fee, or some of your spectacular company and some cider i would be more than willing to go over there and cause some sh*t maybe break some fingers and generally scare the poo out of all of them.....
why hasnt your fella done that?
i wouldnt put up with it
must be like living next to several; andy and lou's ha ha ha

Thank you Simon!
I see you have given it a lot of thought ;D
The local Authority can't close it down as it doesn't need permission to be there. I think that the only body who can impact on them is the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate & they are going to try to do something. I am concerned that, going by the response I've had from the home so far, they really don't give a toss how much they p*** the neighbours off.

Linda. Sympathy. We have a very similar thing that was built by Local Do Gooder's in the field next to us. Spoiling our previous view of rolling countryside and interupting our previous silence. Another Story for another time From experience, The only people who WILL take on issues of noise and anti social behavour are the Enviromental Health. If you have evidence. they will listen and they will take persistant offenders to court HTH More of my woes another time

I think its time to involve the power of the press.
However do not come across as a personal grievance as they wont be interested.
Remember - the pen is mightier than the sword....so is an Ozzie !

Cheers DJ Chris - what happened? Do you still live in the same place & did it get better? The management of the home are really defensive - it is like they think I am picking on the kids.............I made em a cake at Christmas - I forgot to roll out the red carpet too! The children are nice, considering that (I am led to believe) they have had a terrible time at home. Paul says basically - what can we do........stuck with it. I don't agree. The Marlowe Trust put it there & they should take responsibility, rather than blaming all the neighbours for "picking on the children"

Linda, I have never been in your position, thank god, but I sympathise greatly. I guess the only, legal, thing that you can do is to complain, to whomever will listen. I would keep a diary of everything. Note the times and types of disturbance and, if possible, get a recording. Report it every time, and I mean every time, as persistence does pay off, even if it is only to get you off the back of the council official you are ringing every day! It will all add up in the end. If we, the Eagle Club collective, can assist then let us know. A sleep over perhaps? Best of luck, Jon

Incidentally it seems that things have got a little better in our hamlet. I hope it remains so.
It seems that the commission for social care inspectorate had the most imediate effect. They promised me a meeting with the home manager, which hasn't happened, but it seems that they are generally less anti social.
The children are quieter - but then I did call the police every time the noise or behaviour was (I felt) excessive - which was a lot of times.
Police remained marvelous (tho I imagine they privately hate me). They also made their feeling clear about this group of care homes. Apparently most homes of this nature have problems - this trust is particularly bad & causes a lot of problems.
I asked the police about the chances of the children & the saddest thing is that they probably don't have a cat in hell's chance in later life. They are about 12 years old.
Anyway, I was thinking of going over to say that we appreciated the improvement - seemed only fair after I have pretty much forced them to conform. Then I looked out of my window to watch a member of staff puting out their refuse for collection.
Bless the little fatty! They have about 20 bin liners of rubbish (no wheelie bins - we are too rural). She has a slight limp too, not sure if this is due to the excess weight, but she was clearly too tired to bother to tie up the rubbish bags. 20 bags of rubbish, left out overnight........not all tied up. I wonder what the result will be in the morning?
The police are right - the kiddies have a cat in Hells chance. But hey - the owner of the trust sent me a letter saying that "with mutual respect & understanding, we can all enjoy the pleasant environment of Botloes Green". I assume by that she meant that we have to respect & understand, whilst they enjoy.
It has improved - but, if ever in this situation, you really have to stick out for it & make them listen.
Thanks tho guys for all your support & suggestions - any others are welcome x x x

Ok you are gonna love this. Yesterday Jon L's post said "pigeon club collective". I'm but it did. I know that it did cos I had been drinking & I had to check the spelling of pigeon from Jon L' s post.............. Did you ever think about incorporating pigeon club in the banner?

Just to keep you all up to date on the cute kiddies over the road (been quiet for a while)....................................tonight, bout 11.30pm lotsa banging noises.
Rang the police after bout 1/2 hour. Hurrah - someone else had already complained. Went over after further 1/2 hour to see what the hell was going on. Glass & debris all over garden.
Delightful girls had barricaded themselves in the bedroom & trashed it - totally, meaning kicked windows out etc. They spat at me - which is always nice. Exciting to see so many men in uniform all at once...when the police came I mean! They are coming back to interview me soon......yum yum.
Vindicated tho as I saw 4 carers & even the one I got cross with, at Christmas, was really apologetic & said he couldn't live opposite it. Hurrah - we all made up!

Welcoming you all back to the happy, happening hamlet of Botloes Green ;D No pub, no church..............just about 10 houses. Got a call from the police this morning (lovely when I am feeling under the weather). The police want to (are going to) slap an ASBO on the neighbours, as they are fed up with dealing with them. Not only on my neighbours, but on the group of care homes they belong to. (To be fair, the general management is pretty bad!). I would like to say I feel good about it, as I have put up with some kinda rubbish from them. Just feel sad for the children really

Yeah - my mum said "don't you dare back down now"
They are kids who have been failed all their lives. I don't feel that great about failing them also
