THE FUTURE OF the Eagle Owners Club ( 9/10/2022 )
Edited 10/10/2022
First, let me explain about the club.
The club website is at www.eagleownersclub.org.uk/
It needs updating and is in the process of being updated.
Members of the club, are members of www.eagleownersclub.org.uk/, not Facebook, nor the eagle forum located at
eaglecarclub.proboards.com/
To get advantage of being able to see photos and be able to send and receive private messages on the club forum ( eaglecarclub.proboards.com/ ) you have to join the forum, just as you have to join the Facebook page, but are still not a member till you join the "Club" at www.eagleownersclub.org.uk/membership.htm
Paid membership numbers are still low, and incoming membership fees are not enough to sustain a healthy club, so much so, that we had to ask people for donations.
Towards the end of year 2021, I paid out in excess of £ 1000 ( not expecting to get it back ) to replace equipment, club tent, missing club funds etc etc.as we had not received any monies from the then Membership secretary, in which I had to involve the police to help get the money returned. Members and none members donated approx £ 500 at Stoneligh Kit car show ( now no longer ) to help with the expense.
I also donated, none returnable trophies for best Eagle SS and R.V at Newark 2022
No one gets paid to run the club, and the first 2 listed people below were previously financing the club to be able to attend shows to keep it going.
Committee Members.
Terry Robinson - committee member ( terryrob at www.eaglecarclub.proboards.com/ )
Jonathan Grindle - committee member ( gromit at www.eaglecarclub.proboards.com/ )
Graham Wood - E.O.C. Chairman / committee member / Membership Sec' [ all from approx Jan 2022 ]
( Graham Wood at www.eaglecarclub.proboards.com/ )
Peter Lee - committee member, Web site custodian / originator, Keeper of Eagle register. Facebook originator, and has a wealth of knowledge of Eagles. ( Peter at www.eaglecarclub.proboards.com/ )
The "club" has folded once, for a while, and almost folded twice more due to lack of members attending shows, lack of interest, and lack of funds recently, and previous membership secretary not replying to membership requests, ( That person has been removed from the club ).
Previous people thought they could run the club better, branched off, but it soon fell apart and failed, membership money was also lost.
I was asked to be the Chairman as I seemed to have some "get up and Go" - and I helped increase the membership and get more cars at Newark show than the last one in 2013.
Thank you, all those that attended Stoneleigh and Newark shows.
Not everyone wants to go to a show, but the drive beats your occasional Sunday afternoon drive under duress ( with the thought of - must use it or things start to stick ) If your car won't do 140 miles in a day, or you think it may not do it, then it's not a car, it's an unreliable liability, which substantially devalues it upon sale.
We get a good reports from our shows now, people thanking the committee members for helping the club to thrive and survive, and members get fed too ! £ 5 for 2 days ! ! when ONE cheese burger costs £ 3 to £ 5 from the stalls, each time.
It is in your interest that the club thrives, and is financially viable.
If you have gained valuable information from Facebook and the Eagle Owners proboards forum, please think about joining, so as to enable us to continue these internet sites, and the club.
What are the current benefits of joining. Well, not much in the way of financial discounts, at the moment as membership is only about 19 , ( we used to have 35 / 40 ) and only about 3 or 4 would change insurance companies. Discounts are hard to get on insurance, with so few willing to change insurance companies, likewise with any other companies.
Kit car Shows.
Stoneleigh
is to be moved because the show ground owners have increased the rental rate substantially for the 3 days . Will let you know if and where it gets moved to when advised.
Newark.
Last show was in 2013, and resurrected for 2022.
The area covered was about half that of 2013 show.
Why ? because they are new / different organisers for 2022, and they were not too sure they would get a good return ( £ ) and would not lose money.
Yes, it was poorly attended and other club members not bothering to attend ( a few, - not too many )
The reason Newark was cancelled after 2013 was because someone sued them, because they tripped over old wooden stakes left in the ground ( broken off at just above ground level.) The organisers did not know the result of the successfull claim, as their insurers just said, leave it with us, and that was that.
Therefore the 2013 instigators of the show decided they did not want to get sued again, and withdrew from any more shows.
Shows help to attract members too, by the way.
People joining the club at the shows, and others having seen the cars, decided to buy an Eagle, and also join the club.
So your help is needed to TRY to attend shows in your Eagle.
Eagle Owners Club to become a "Company". ( Eagle Owners Club Ltd )
Why ?
Because if someone trips over anything that is obscured, or gets run over by cars moving on the club stand, the club can be sued for damages ( unlikely to occur ) which means as the Club is it's members, all the members can be sued as party to the Club.
A "Limited" company can have in it's constitution that the members are limited by "Guarantee" and the maximum they are liable for is £ 1 if the club is sued or goes bankrupt.
I have decided not to ask the members to approve this change, because we cannot protect our members if we don't become a limited Company.
Will cost us next to nothing, and accounts are one page to Companies House and we will be exempt from having to pay auditors to produce certified accounts.
2 people were concerned about the liability to the members, and one has withdrawn their membership until we become a "Ltd" company.
Updates of the "Ltd" company will follow when instigated.
