Help and guidance requested please.
From the paperwork, our Eagle was built in 1971. Would anyone know whether kit cars can be classed as a classic (i.e. built before 1973 I think) and therefore be tax exempt?
Thank you in advance.
DEAN.

Your DONOR was built in 1971, (the Cortina), but the EAGLES were not made until 1981 and the RV sometime later. so as the DONOR reg is used then an IVA is not needed and the date of registration of the Donor is taken as the date of construction, if that is over the threshold for 'historic status, as a few Eagles are, then you can apply for it. Thanks Peter. Please excuse my 'dumb' questions (although it's the only type of question I can come up with). What document proves the date of construction (as we're still waiting for the return of the V5)? Is it the V5, MOT certificate or will the post office computer know?

The "make" should say "Eagle". There can be no 'proof' of construction as it was totally in the hands of the builder at the time after buying the kit and that could range from days to months, until submitted for a MoT and re-registration as an Eagle. There is a certificate of newness on the technical page of the web site which you can fill in. www.eagleownersclub.org.uk/Technical/eAGLE%20CERT%20NEW%201.jpg

This could be a tricky one Dean. You are on a "Q" plate so the donor registration wasn't used. I can't remember how the vehicle was described on the V5c. I think you will have to wait for the V5c to come back and see what's on it.

Dean, your RV is a Q reg? So, I understand your V5 will state the date ("First registered") is was given that Q-reg which is also the best indication you'll have of when the build was completed. And that will be well after 1971.
So I would say, very unlikely you'll be lucky enough to get it tax-exempt.

if it's on a Q then you are stuck with it and no tax exemption. What I don't get is the 'build date' of 1971 which must be the Cortina's first date of registration and if so should have had the donor's reg number. As I said, Eagle Cars Ltd. started in 1981 by Tim Dutton so all Eagles are post '81-
