Just had an E-Mail from one KEN in Toronto Canada who has just become the bemused owner of an immaculate VW based SS MkIII. I have seen this car once before on the web and it is MINT! Even has the original front (Marmite) bumper on. Hope he finds his way on here, I have invited him to pop on. in the meantime here are a few shots of the car he sent me. (reg VWSS20) Got the dreaded 'flat' bonnet syndrome, same as mine, need to put a curve back into it. Can see the original door cards and straps too, gets even better. Ken says it needs new carpets and a decent finish to the dash trim, if that's all it needs he is getting off VERY lightly. Weird looking double gas strut setup though, not seen that before.

He contacted me through facebook. it is indeed a very tidy car. I pointed him in this direction if he was needing any help. he apparently got a porche engine with the car which he's thinking of putting in

Well done that man, If anyone wants to know what a SS should look like, I think this is the shining example, not messed about, all the factory bits and clean, neat finish, apart from stick on vinyl dash cover apparently but that is easy sorted whilst leaving the rest as is. plonking a porker in isn't an easy job and certainly not a straight swap, (there is a web page on it somewhere, I'll have a poke about), unless its the old 4 pot version, the 6 pot version needs a lot of work and quite honestly makes the car a pig to drive in the wet (and Canadian ICE).

Wow, how wrong can I be? the SS is a 1981 MkI, eek2[1]who would have guessed it from the condition? Some more photos of the interior Ken sent me. Looks like a Type 4 engine too, just keeps getting better. I can see what ken said about the carpets, but hey, thirty years is a good stint but it's a easy fix. I would everything else as stock. And a classic Empi shifter too.

Ken does still have the car, he's asking a couple of questions about the car, not sure if we can help ... he's asking if we know anything about any previous owners... I've copied and pasted his querys below.... Hey brett I'm trying to get a hold of the previous owner of my eagle, I know it's on a type 3 body but is there anyway I would be able to find out? Or would you have an inclination on what it would be? Hi Ken. I can try asking Peter in the eagle owners club to see if he has any info. Do you have any information on when it was imported to Canada ? I unfortunately have no idea, I'm still trying to get a hold of the previous owner but the car is in the shop Okeydokey. I'll send a message to Peter and see what he can find out Okay that's amazing thank you Do you have any idea how much the type 3 body changed from 70-76? The mechanic is afraid to border parts because they may not be the rightbones I'm to keep bothering you no probs Ken is it mechanical parts the mechanic isn't sure about ordering ? I don't think any differences in the body would affect that much

" Do you have any idea how much the type 3 body changed from 70-76? The mechanic is afraid to border parts because they may not be the right ones" All mechanical are relevant to the DONOR, is this case a >1976 VW beetle is fine, many beetle parts are interchangeable as upgrades anyway as apart from the mac strut 'super beetles, there are only two basic chassis types, swing arm and IRS. Engine is obviously not a beetle one and looks like a FI type 3, If your mechanic doesn't know what is in front of him, well,,, The engine number will tell you what is is. Check here, www.vw-resource.com/engine_number.htmlMine for instance is a AS so it is 1973>1980 60HP, this was fitted to the type 2. That is the year of registration of the DONOR, not the SS, they didn't start making the UK version of the Cimbria until 1981. MkIII would be from 1990 to 1998. (MkI from 1981 to mid 1980s when Tim Dutton left Eagle, MkII from then to about 1990, MkII from then to end in 1998) The only major changes was the MkI had a bolt in roll cage with seat belt mounts, front mounted side windows and front and rear bumpers, in the MkII it had a Porche 928 style front end and the side window bolts had moved from the front edge to the top and bottom corners, (the top mounted windows on this car are a one of). In the MkIII the nose had reverted to the one piece as in the MkI and a stronger steel cage was built in as an integral part. Ford versions had three bonnet styles, depending on period and engine options and a smooth boot with a central 'vent'. The VW version had a flat bonnet with three ribs in the lower part and a 'louvered' engine cover as well as the centre vent. The doors and main central 'tub' remained the same. The first kit came with headlining panel, door cards, dash with pod and centre console, bucket seats and A post trims, many of these items became 'extras' by 1990.
