I cannot believe my day!!!!!!!!
Had to abandon my car, cos of the floods at about 3pm & decided to walk the 6 miles home. Did try phoning my neighbour for assistance, but he was stuck also about 12 miles away. He is lovely tho & did promise to phone if he got going & heading my way..
As I was expecting to be driving not walking I was only wearing a thin coat, so after about 300 yards I was soaked to the skin. At some points the water really was thigh deep & the traffic was at a stand still. Neighbour rang to say he was on his way to rescue the damsel in distress, but, cos of the traffic I said "go straight home. I will walk.".
Reached the bit that was holding the traffic up (had been walking a good hour in the pissing rain by then) & this woman, who was looking all nice but prim under her umbrella, said "are you really gonna walk through that?"............"No love - I have trudged all this way & am soaked to the skin already. I thought I would stand still now & shiver" . It was really embarrassing walking through a flood that deep which appeared to go on forever, with a whole queue of traffic watching. Fortunately I didn't fall over ;D
Then a kindly man gave me a lift for the last bit. I was so cold that I could barely open the door..........
After a nice hot shower & a glass of Baileys it just seemed rude not to go on my bike & check out the flooding. By this time there had been a landslide just down the road (I live in a really rural place) & a nice BT man told me I wouldn't get through on my bike. How wrong was he, but I did sink to my knees in mud. Got some good vids of the floods tho ;D ;D.
Thought I would set myself a bit of a challenge & try cycling through the bits I knew would be the worst. I did really well - the floods were well over the wheels of my mountain bike - until I got to the tidal river that had burst its banks.........where the 4x4s were out in force. Never seen it like that. the flood was about 1/2 mile long!! I woulda made it had it not been for the 4x4s & the fact my chain came off!! Any one who knows me will tell you I never give in to anything, but I had gone through the worst of it & it was getting dark, so I turned round.
A little before I had been passed by a tractor pulling a trailer full of people. They had to stop cos of an abandonded car & offered me a ride, so I thought "why not?". Turns out they were Polish migrants going back to their farm. It was mint ;D. They had a bottle of vodka & a bottle of coke & a crate of larger- we had a party on the trailer in the pouring rain! It was the best surprise & the funniest thing I have done for ages ;D
I had no idea what they were saying, but they passed me stuff & I just drank it ;D ;D ;D. I feel great now ;D ;D ;D
Did anyone else get up to much today?
