Pedro, I have experience of running a 1.8 TDI Sierra engine and box in my rv. My conclusions are,,, its okay around town and up to 50 - 55 mph but then the aerodynamics (or lack of) take over. the flat screen and boxy shape then start to fight against the air. Basically it wont cruise much above 50 on the flat. So I have taken it outand put a 2.0 sierra DOHC engine and box in. I still have lots to do on that though. Thats the beauty of a diesel, a couple of wires and fuel and it goes.

With regards to you doing the 1.8 diesel conversion Terry, I thought the 90hp turbo diesel version would easily break the 55mph barrier (not that I would want to go much faster lol) Its the gearing and what goes with what that will cause me a headache, I think i got a mk3 cortina back axel that should give about the right gearing for a MT or type 9 5 speed box, Im still looking into that

Hi guys, firstly thank you for letting me join the club. I have just got hold of a basket case of an Eagle Rv so probably going to need lots of your specialist help and advice. Its a 1971 reg based i think on the mk3 cortina (although there is no engine or box) I'm thinking of going down the route of a 1.8td ford setup (being a ex p100 and escort owner) its really a blank canvas at the moment so could change my plan if others on here think its a bad combination lol. I'm based in Shropshire, Thx in advance guys View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentHi Pedro, I'm in Staffordshire with an RV still waiting to be done on the drive! Mine has a 2.1 diesel Ford/Peugeot engine. Steve.

Hi Steve, that's great to know another local diesel is out there. My RV is far from finished but hope to crack on with it as the weather gets better. Are you on the FB page too? I'm happy to share help and ideas, and hope to see your RV up and running soon. Regards Peter

Hi Andy, yes that is correct, the guy said he got over 30 enquiries (showed me his phone) I guess I just caught him at the right time. I will stick with the ford 1.8td they are quite tunable + no electronics to worry about. Regards Peter

I bought it to teach my sons to drive, they are now 28 and 32! To be fair, I have had a lot of other things to do that had higher priority and financial needs, but now I am finding myself with a little more time and have started to actively look at components again for it. I have been looking for a roll bar for ages now but nothing seems to be available, so I might be asking you for some dimensions soon from yours. Steve.

Hi Steve I don't think your alone, there seems to be a few owners with jeeps "under total renovation" in their garages for many years lol, I hope to see them all make it to the road in the near future. With regards to the roll bar, mine has one fitted, its rusty but good enough to measure as a template. I hope to fit a 3" one as the standard one looks a bit flimsy. I'll bear you in mind when I get to that stage. Its a shame Not many spare parts are out there now.
Regards Peter

I have spoken with Peter Brown on the FB page and PM, he knows a bit about getting more power from them so you are correct 90 bhp will be fine. Wish I had kept mine now and got the pump sorted and new turbo. the waste gate can probably be adjusted to give more boost.
