Got the steel tube required to make mounts for the engine cage. The tube is a fraction of a mm too big in diameter to fit into the cage tubes so I will be using the lathe at work. I also got some steel rectangular box section to make a support for the nose of the car. I have everything for that already so will probably be my first job.

Ive managed to turn down two of the tubes using a drill and a bench grinder. Took ages and will hopefully get the other two done tomorrow. Next free weekend I get I will try and make the mount plates for the engine cage. Wish I had a lathe

I have had two new side screens made to pattern they were £85 each. I have one spare side screen that has the mounting holes quite close together on the front edge. Mine has mounting on the top and bottom corners of the front edge. If my spare is of use to you you can have it.

Ive now jacked the car up and got the rear cage in roughly the right place. I think it will look really wild when its mounted and has the rear lights on it. Ill be making the mount plates next. looking at the originals online, the mounts the bolt up to the shock towers look dead straight but there is no way they are going to bolt up like that. Maybe they expect you to bend them to make fit?

Its been raining alot this weekend so have managed to do much. I've got some steel plate cut for the cage mounts and I had a play with how I might arrange the lamps. I'm going to use Fiat Coupe rear lights and 3d print some fixtures for them. All mounted to the engine cage. Here are three designs I've come upt with so far. Which one do you think is the best? Mine is the last one.

Yes, last one, but remember, rear lights "should" show the width of the car, and should be as near to the edge as possible, and contain reflectors.
The first 2 are unacceptable ( in my opinion )
Things I hope you will do before drving the car.
- Blank off the heat exchanger outlets if not fitting heat exchanger exhaust, as you will lose vital cooling to the cylinders. The heat exchanges give a restriction as they are full of alloy fins.
- If exposing the engine, it needs painting, and exhaust pipes sand blasting and sprayed with high temp paint ( read instructions carefully ), and cage sand blasted and painted ( of course )
- Tidy up the rear end - somehow to make it look "better" wth finishing panels.

Eventually, everything will get cleaned up and painted to look nice. My focus at the moment is getting the car back on the road so just making everything fit and work. initially it will be a rat rod mad max look which I kind of like.

I have got the top mounts made today. Just tacked together until I have the bottoms done and Im sure its all aligned. Doing all this on my own is a total pain in the back side, I need about eight arms.

While Im sorting out the rear cage mounts, ive also been designing some mounts for the fiat rear lights. My first mockup looks promising. Ive a few adjustments to make and figure out how these will attach to the cage. Im happy so far though.

They look really good. It might not be the look that you're going for, (or even legal) but I'd be tempted to make a rear panel out of some form of black mesh, so everything is hidden behind it, but the lights shine through.

Unfortunately I don't think any of your designs are road legal.

Im pretty sure those are recent IVA specificatuons. I wont be putting the car through IVA since its already registered Q plated. There are loads of reasons the car wouldn't pass IVA today.
I am going to mount the lights as wide as I can but its never going to meet IVA spec.

Having a quick look on google at beach buggys, most of those have lights pretty close together.

Actually looking at that westfield spec closer. Those dimensions are not as tight as they look. 400mm maximum seperation between wing and light unit. Thats pretty large.

Lovely forum this. It takes a lot of effort to keep a build thread going on a almost dead forum. Nobody really needs the snarky remarks. Especially from some single post lurker.

The I.V.A. test is to ensure a car conforms to all transport regulations, and that includes The - Construction and Use regulations, 1989
Previously, these measures were not taken when converting a car, but now they are.
Any car can be stopped by police and inspected, and if lights are not as per regulations, you cannot drive it home, and I'm sure you would not like that.
Fit your lights in accordance to ......................................

The post from Peter is very interesting as I've never seen the legal requirements laid out like that before. The measurements are definitely not to scale. I think Chris's mockup is absolutely fine.. it has the outside edge of the light cluster within 400mm from the outside of the car, so it's legal! Keeping going with the build thread, I'm intrigued to see it come together!

With your rear lights the last photo of the three looks the best to me if thats of any help. As you said the positioning isn’t a strict as what first appears on the Westfield drawing. I had to do some revision on lamp positions when I fitted my new rear lights. It depends on when your Eagle was registered (first used) but I think the Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 probably covers most of our cars in the club. www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/10/madeYour lamp housings look good and interesting did you make them yourself and if so how?

I have now made all of the mounts, they just need welding uo properly now. I have held the lights up against the cage and I know I now need to reduce the angle they are set at, they can then fit above the rail and close to the corner of the cutout panel. Thats basically where the originals sat. The lights are from a fiat coupe, I have designed and 3D printed a surround for them. At the moment, my prints are just mockups as Im trying to get the fit right before I print them finally in a stronger more heat resistant plastic. I would recomend a 3D printer to anybody, they are cheap and not very difficult to use. Perfect for custom parts on the kitcar.

Welded up the cage mounts properly and after much juggling I have the the cage mounted with just the bolt holes to drill. Over Christmas I finished the 3d printing of the light cluster. Next job is to weld on the brackets to mount the lights and number plate.

Another step forward. I have the offside rear light cluster tacked onto the rear cage. Need to decide where to put the number plate next.

Rear lights wired in, just number plate lights to finish it. Ill take it all apart then to be painted. Ive made a start on the frames to lift the nose up again. I attempted to use U bolts first but I couldnt get a socket in to tighen them up so abandoned that idea and went the original route using the frame head bolts. One side has been made and bolted on. Just need to copy it over to the other side. Will be painted up then before moving on to the next job. Nose isnt sagging anymore though
