GRAB IT! VW engine minus a head going for only 0.99p one bid so it will go. Looks like it's been outside in the rain and all weathers for at least 10 years via the corrosion on alloy. Hence possible seized bores and valves. Not one I would buy. That's just my opinion.

He says it's been in garage and turns freely, can't be too fussy these days, getting rarer by the minute and more expensive. I could turn that into a good 1641 less tins for £400.

I have in the past bought an engine and had to hammer out a piston. It took an hour ! Was a VW 1500 variant ( flatter than the beetle engine ). Put 1600 barrels on and 2 webber carbs on, and took car to be re-jetted and power improvement was good. I used the original variant pistons, as they were domed with a higher compression. But as you say, it turns over. People - don't forget that you have to grind in the barrels to the head with grinding compound, just as you do with the valves, and keep the barrels in the original locations. ( 1, 2, 3, 4. ) and heads on the original sides of the engine. Buy a workshop manual From memory, the main bearings have round lugs on and have to be aligned in the main bearing bosses. Have fun with the rebuild anyone who buys an engine.
