Once I have sorted out the gearbox issue I will have to sort out the clonk from the rear diff when taking up the drive hopefully simple any ideas ? Then there is the interior to put back in looks worse than it actually is it all goes back together easily (I hope)

Have finally got the engine and 5 speed gearbox back in everything has gone ok which usually means there is something lurking around the corner ! Anyway the new gearbox mount could not now be in a more awkward position its directly above where the V in the chassis has anyone got an easy solution as the old mount now looks useless View AttachmentView AttachmentView Attachment What about a stiff plate bolted to the cross member?

Problem is I have to get a rubber mount between the gearbox and the chassis(20 mm clearance) and the bolt hole for the gearbox is fouled by the chassis, but after a day thinking about it I may have a solution which involves using two rubber bobbins and a bracket I can make up its been giving me brain ache all day

What about,,,,, a plate like I thought of but above the cross member with two bobbins between the chassis and the plate and a third between the plate and the gearbox, looks like there could be enough room.

Yes think something along those lines will work

And if that proves too floppy solid to above cross member with spacers and a single bobbin to the box or,,, solid to the box and two on the cross member.

Finally made up a gearbox mount and fitted it got everything else connected the prop shaft went straight in no cutting required re connected all the other little bits then the moment of truth Fired up first go and purred, ran for twenty minutes then re torqued the head bolts but it did involve having to remove the carburettor grrrr . Then I refitted the rocker cover and put some sealer on it as oil poured out without it . Then holding my breath I tried the gearbox and everything worked happy days ,next job then! So you went for, "solid to the box and two to the cross member", then, nice job. Great to hear the engine and running gear is all sorted, one major step forwards.
