Drove around for about 30 miles today, calibrated the speedo against my sat nav, just turned into our street and lost power, engine sounds like its running on 3 or two cylinders at tickover and when revved a bit there are clouds of smoke coming out of the oil filler cap. Head is coming off tomorrow but I suspect some piston problem. Gutted is not enough to describe how I feel right now with 4 days to Stoneleigh.

Thats about it Brett, bollocks sums it up nicely LOL, as for sorting it out Ed, if its not the head gasket I won't have time to fix it. I have a spare engine but its semi stripped with some bolts and bits missing so I would have to strip bits of the knackered one to build up the spare one. All quite do able but takes time. Anyway We will see tomorrow. I will still be at stoneleigh whatever.

fingers crossed Terry that the new gasket fixes it. it is in a pretty bad way .... my daytime car is in bits at the moment too, my trusty vauxhall omega decided to break its timing belt 8000 miles early and bent all 9 inlet valves ... then i also found two sheared off exhaust manifold bolts ... but thats a story for the omega forum, not here Brett

Its running again and a lot less smokey than before, but I drove it a couple of miles again today and it didn't feel quite right and cut out again as I got home. I think I have a fuel problem as well !, I'l fit a new filter tomorrow and bleed it all through then see how it goes.

Took the tank off today and found some rust sdiment in there , not much though realy, it was only when I was decanting the drum of diesel into a proper container that I realised as I got to the bottom the rust sediment was pooled up in bubbles, bubbles of water !. I have cleaned it all out, fitted a new fuel filter and checked all fittings and connections, put 20 lts of fresh new diesel in and primed all the way to the pump union. I have just run around for 20 miles with no problems. Watch this space.

AH, took the gearbox off yesterday to fit a new clutch as it was judering sometimes. Now this spigot bearing is supposed to contain needle rollers !. Yet again before a show I have repairs to do. Not so bad but everywhere is shut till wednesday . I'm a bit p****d off. As long as I can get the bearing It should be ok.

Personally I prefer ere a bronze bush and a dab of 'Copperslip', they don't break up. Peter I was thinking the same myself today, I have some bronze and I have a small lathe, so tomorrow I will make one. It will save me time waiting for a main dealer part.

I didn't have suitable size bronze so I turned a bush out of copper. This won't last as long, but it will be ok for the rest of this year. Clutch is now fitted and gearbox back on, needs prop , cable etc fitting to finish off. One pick to show how to lock a flywheel with a old valve bent 90 degrees.
