Hi, anybody know how to take the bonnet (engine lid) off the vw based eagle, i have removed the split pin but nothing is budging.

There should be two bolts at the front corners with nylon washers

Ive got a bar/rod going from one side to the other, it had a split pin in it and it looks like its sitting in a copper pipe aswell.

Sounds like nothing I have seen on a SS, and I have seen a few. The factory fit is two bolts into threaded inserts in the bodywork. I would recommend chopping the lot out and doing it as per factory spec. of course you could use two people and just put a nut up the inside.

I would rather put it back to original spec, it looks like its a homemade thing anyway Looks familiar Bonnet and boot use the same top hat and washwe set up with a mate thread in the body (rivnut) you could use a tube and two washers over the tube as well.
