Has Micelle not taken this any further?
Just had someone in my driveway wanting to buy my RV; seems he'd love one for the dinosaur park where he works! It might be that it doesn't even need to be registered as it would be used off-road.

This is great stuff - inspirational! The engine overheat coupled with hellsih access to fix the oil leak would have seen many restorations shoved in the skip :-)

Is there any chance at all that this has been correctly registered at some point? If so... :-)

It seems pretty clear to me that Steve knows exactly what he's taking on. He also seems to have the necessary skills and experience to see it through. And he absolutely knows it'll be a trigger-happy car and will therefore undoubtedly drive it with the respect it requires.
The warnings being given to him are also obviously fair enough, but that is what they are - warnings, advice, borne of experience, given in good faith, something for him to 'consider'. I think it's equally clear that he has considered them, and also appreciates the reasons they've been given.
He's made his decision.
There are plenty of YouTube clips of powerful rear-wheel-drive cars such as Cobra replicas being driven by folk who really don't know what they are doing; more than a few are seen ending up in a ditch having simply been 'floored' from a standstill on a straight bludy road. That ain't the car's fault; it's just what these cars will do when they lose traction and the driver doesn't know how to correct it. The options are pretty clear I think; either skill yourself to handle the crazy unrestrained behaviour of these vehicles, or else sell them on to someone who already has the skills. Or, possibly, just drive them with a light foot.
As Mark says, it'll be a real real shame if Steve doesn't either keep a thread going on here (ideally, 'cos it is an Eagle after all) or else lets us know if he sets up an alternative site where we can follow his progress - it sounds like bludy gripping project (unlike what his rear tyres will be, fnurrr fnurrr...)
Don't go, Steve :-)

It’s definitely a 2ltr pinto, it has the 20 on the block just below the exhaust manifold. The gearbox is a 4 speed. Very likely from a Mk3 Cortina, then, just like mine; the earlier '20' block and modest 4-speed 'box. I'm fairly familiar with the parts used in my RV, so if there's anything I can help with please ask and I'll do my best. I also have a Cortina Mk3 Haynes manual, so if there's any stuff from there that might help you, please ask.

Hi Andy.
Do you know if it's a 'Pinto' engine? You can post a photo on here for us to ID it if you like (https://imgur.com/ works well and is free. You can continue to post photos of your refurb on it :-) )
From a quick Google, it seems that the number cast into the block is on the exhaust side; 20 or 205 if it is a 2 litre, 16 or 165 if a 1.6. (the '5' is a latter, superior version I believe).
Is the gearbox 4 or 5 speed?

Och well... Looking at my last posting date, it's shockingly clear my RV's been off the road for a shameful amount of time due to, well, no excuse really. All my plans for it were slowly shelved as other boring things like doing up the house took precedence. But... LOCKDOWN! Surely one of the few 'good' things about this vicious virus is the enforced home time most of us have had to endure? Which means I now have zero excuse not to finish this project. I did do a few things over this time like taking off the petrol tank and pressure-washing it out. That was quite amusing as it revealed it was holed like a sieve. Found a nice plastic fuel tank on eBay complete with sender which should be possible to fit. The rusting state of the old petrol tank explains the blocked fuel lines and carb... New 17" alloy wheels (another eBay bargain) repainted black and shod with decent second-hand rubber has given the car a nice lift and was meant to act as an incentive to get going on it - but that was at least 4 years ago. It's shameful how I've neglected the poor thing. It largely needs only cosmetic work, but I am frankly bludy lazy. My main reason for this update is to prompt me to pull ma finger out.

Hi Tony. I'm with Peter on this one. My RV actually came with doors (unfitted) when I bought it, but I wasn't taken by their styling much. I then saw a Hummer in a children's car book and realised what kind of doors I wanted :-) These should be a fairly straight-forward build using, say, 9mm exterior ply for the main flat door panel (cheap in places like Wickes) with timber (4x1 or similar) used for the main external structural sections as shown in the photos. This way you will know that they'll fit (mine wouldn't have without some serious tweaks to the screen angle and hardtop, for instance) and can be as complex or as simple in design as you wish. For instance, the windows could be as simple as glued-in flexible PVC panels, or as complex as having an aluminium frame insert to take to take a couple of sliding 6mm Polycarbonate panels - the parts for this are available from kit and classic-car parts suppliers. I'd even bookmarked suitable-looking hinges for this on eBay, but darned if I can find them now - similar design to those in the Hummer, and plastic-bodied. I'll post when I find them. Finally you can finish your doors in a number of ways. First of all, soak them in timber preservative like Everbuild Lumberjack. Then you can either paint them with a quality paint such as Bedec's Barn paint - say using a stipple technique to give a texture to cover the wood grain - or else skin them in vinyl. Or a bit of both - skin the flat panels, and texture-paint the skeleton frame. That's my plan anyhow - once I get around to it... :-(

Any luck finding the chassis number, Triker?
I think mine is on the actual front bumper - passenger side, top side, stamped in.

Hi Peter.
I know I'm one of the ones who came on here all enthusiastic last year (or was it even the year before?!), but have since been very quiet. I DO intend to get my finger out, tho', and get stuck back in to my RV soon. Once I get under way, you'll be begging me to stop making posts... ;-)
I know it's pathetic, but I can honestly say that I have a feeling of guilt for not sorting my Eagle out sooner than now; guilt mainly due to this forum and the work being put into it, and the hope & expectation of the the other owners for more of our cars to be saved.
Sometimes it ain't quite enough for me to just look out at my poor RV and be driven by the desire to be back behind the wheel with a big grin on my face again. So "thank you" to you and the other owners, and to this forum for sending out that invisible guilt beast to sit on my shoulder and prod me so repeatedly that I can no longer ignore it...

Usual practice is, I think, to have the seat belt reel mounted at the bottom of the roll-over bar, with the belt coming up to that top mount where there's the 'holder' for the belt - the 'flat ring' that allows the belt to slip through and provides the correct shoulder height for the belt.
I can see a top-mounted reel being a problem.
The reel doesn't have to be at the side of the roll bar at the bottom either, it could be mounted in front or behind the roll bar where it won't get in the way of the seat (can't remember how mine is at the moment...).

Are you fitting them to the top of the existing fibreglass seat 'box'? The MGTF seats are really nice - I had a set for a previous old kit car and they looked great. Comfy too. Low & flat mounting base too, I recall? So if you can source another matching pair, they should fit nicely in the back I've managed to get hold of a full set of Vitarra seats for my own RV, so looking forward to having them fitted. But the 'seat boxes' are going to have to be cut out and my floor flattened first...

Happy Birthday, Peter - with emphasis on 'happy' if you can . I totally understand where you're coming from, but it's the nature of the beast that when something is no longer made, it can only become more and more rare with each passing year. Now't we can do about that - unless one just happens to have enough money to buy them all and do them up. Even that, tho', would be quite 'sad' in a way - the real thrill and delight of such cars is that they are owned by such a variety of diverse characters, and spread throughout the country - and beyond. So I doubt I'd get much of a buzz from knowing that some millionaire, for example, was buying up every wreck and paying a bodyshop to restore them. Tsk - how dull They will become more rare as yet another finds its way to the scrappy. That used to upset me too - but, y'know what? - I'm not actually sure it's an issue any more. Because there will always be some. And those who own, nurture and cherish these few will deserve every thrill they receive in return. With each one that bites the dust - and remember, there's really nothing we can do about it - the remaining cars simply become more precious, more desirable, more treasured and probably more likely to be 'done up'! I mean, how many of these cars ' should there be'? As many as there are Nissan Quashqais - 2 million and counting? Boooorrring. A couple of hundred? Fifty? Twenty? Why should there be more? They are unusual. They are 'niche'. They are quirky. They are impractical. They are costly to run. And they are no longer made... There will always be some out there, and the remaining few will be treated with far more reverence than any fly-by-night tin-top. So, let's just enjoy them. Yes, let's encourage others to rescue another 'at risk' car if we can. But, if we fail, then that's just the nature of these things - the Eagle is not alone there. This forum is a major contributor to keeping the remaining few alive, not only from a 'practical help' point of view, but just knowing that there are other Eagles out there and people with the same desires and interests to keep them going. There will always be some of them out there - a select, precious few. Other will fall by the wayside - but let's not dwell too much on that. It's just the way it'll always be. Right - that's me spurred up to get stuck in to my RV - still insured, still taxed, still running Still tatty...

For me there's not much to chose between B and C - both should work well. (The rectangular rockers just don't seem to suit the curves of your dash.) But I've always found the new MINI's rockers really attractive, especially with the curved protectors that comes with them - really nice. I think they would make your dash look more 'production' quality, and is my marginal preference over the round pushies. I don't you the wiring tho'...

D'oh! And double-d'oh!
I've asked the guy to look at the under-bonnet chassis member too, telling him that we may be able to find a reg number if it's on the database. And emphasising that it moves the car into a completely different category (not that it'll still sell...)
(What's that oldie-grilled car in the barn?!)

D'oh! The license sticker! I was thinking Peter had special powers! (Tho' of course, he does...)
I did get a reply from the seller and he is pretty certain that the fellow who sold it to him never had it on the road; as far as he's concerned, it's an unfinished kit.
I told him where to find the chassis number - they are all on the top of the front bumper where the main chassis member joins, aren't they (or is that just mine!)?
I also mentioned it would be worth a lot more if it had been properly registered, so hopefully he'll make some effort to find out.
