Hi its the man reliving his youth, and being reminded again he does not know everything. I have a problem, am currently rewiring my P21, both fuel and temp gauges under read ? I think it might be to do with the 'instrument voltage regulator' can any one out there shed any light? Great to see a P21 section. (PS anyone have any recommendation on accommodation regarding Stoneleigh B & B Pref.)

On some instruments, mainly Smiths, there is a small can about 1" by 1 1/2" with a male and female spade terminal on and this is volts in and out which in turn go to the instruments to give a measure of stability, this is usually found on the back of one of the instruments, some times the speedo. The fuel gauge and temp gauge both read variable resistance having an input from ignition (via regulator if fitted), input from sender and a bulb with earth (sometimes an eyelet under a fixing nut). The only other "voltage regulator" is found either as a large box on dynamo systems or in the back of an alternator, these limit the output voltage to about 13.8 to 14.5vdc. at max revs Hope that helps

I take it it is a flat screen, if so any of the auto windscreen places should be able to have one made to your spec.

Yes it needs to be laminated but if it is a flat panel, they will cut it to size for you, even get it with a tint if you like.

Hi Roy hope you get your windscreen sorted. My engine refurbish is now complete inclusive of sump and exhaust mods and following 4 hours of rolling road tuning i am please to confirm that not only did the engine not blow but not even any oil leaks. The outcome was a respectable 97BHP and 196 lb ft at the rear wheels not bad for an old Cortina Pinto with smooth power delivery from 2000 rpm. ;D Don't know if i am going to get the suspension refurbish done prior to Stoneleigh, so I'll just have to make do. Looking forward to meeting everyone, anyone know who you have to contact to camp on the eagle stand?

Hi Roy What's this 'if the car don't sell' your not selling your pride and joy ? I hate to say it but i hope you don't before Stoneleigh. Looking forward to seeing you. (my engine may be reasonable but the bodywork is in a very bad way ) Nigel

Well the car is now off the road again, but it is off the road for some well earned maintenance ( Phase 2 - Suspension ). Got most of the bits while at Newark and some very useful advice from Roger (many thanks). Hope to have back on the road in 2 week. ;D ;D ;D
