Guess what idiot forgot to book a stand at the show? ! I’m just so busy working 50+ hours a week at work and the same again at home at the moment, I haven’t even seen my Eagle for 6 weeks! Anyway, I have spoken to the organisers and it is all ok, we not in the book and there wont be a tiny printed sign thing but we are very welcome and they have a space for us. This year the show will be in the infield which will make it much better IMHO. I don’t know if I will be going as the insurance still hasn’t paid out on Hana’s car and we are now living on the scraps we find in the neighbours wheelie bins! If I do go I will have a big FOR SALE sign in the window

Well just got back from Donington Show . Had a really good time. Was nice to meet some names in the flesh !
Only low point was that , for some reason best known to himself, Simon didn't bring any food and only enough drink for himself !! Luckily me and Alex were more than happy to let him share our food . Unfortunately, he has rather a large appetite so not only did he make me cook him pork chops in cider halfway through the evening , he suddenly got hungry just as everyone was going to bed and insisted we cooked the bacon and bread rolls I was carefully saving for breakfast .... ;D

Mmmmmmm, Nosher, I didn’t think you were that drunk! I seam to remember that it was Alex and I whom brought all the food, biscuits, crap wine, beers, pasta, bread rolls and bacon etc etc. If I remember, (and I am sure some one will back me up,) that you turned up with a 2 litre bottle of cider, (which you promptly drunk) and the smallest jar that ever was made of really good home made Chuckey. That was your total contribution, other than whit charm and good looks! You then proceeded to free load of us and club Nova, all weekend! Anyway it was a good weekend, more to come on this topic…………… Suffice it to say that there were 3 great events!

[glow=red,2,300]3 Amazing Facts from Donnington[/glow] 3 yes THREE Eagle SS cars were on show, all three got there and home under their own steam. I’m really quite excited about seeing three SSes lined up. ;D We believe that they are only 3 on road and many thanks to Alex and Chaz for making the effort and perhaps setting a world record (well it feels like one!!) I tried to phone the Guinness Book of Records but they didn’t believe me! The second, is that I completed a personal show challenge. Yes I have avoided erecting my own tent at every show this year! Thank JonL for driving all the way from “down south” to put my tent up for me! Thirdly, not only did we join up with Club Nova this show, another first perhaps, but we also out numbered them in turnout! I am also sure that they admitted that we have the best cars!!!! Many thanks to all that made the effort for a great weekend. Special thanks go out to Club Nova, especially Harry, for the entertainment, (disco/light show,) and use of all your facilities. We really did highjack your stand, but I’m not , it was good to hook up with you all. One thing I did learn is that Donnington is a crap place to camp. Primarily due to the fact that it is on the East Midlands Airport flight path and them Bowing 747 are dam noisy! Shame EOC members were as rare as Nova Cars, come one chaps, lets have 6 cars at the 2006 shows.

I wasn't going to mention it, but Simon has told so many fibs that I feel obliged to ............he is so scared of aeroplanes that every time one passes overhead he blocks his ears, covers his eyes and cries for about 20 minutes sucking his thumb

I was there today guys honest! When I first walked the club area there was only the NOVAs in attendance (and since I didn't know where the Eagles were supposed to collect) I just kept walking around. The next time I got outside I saw two SS's driving away!!! I wasn't avoiding you all honest!!
Managed to get a couple of bits for the RV and I am determined that it will be at the shows next year.

Great weekend had here too Guys, Nice to put more names to faces Anyone worked out why somebody down your end had their engine running ALL NIGHT!!!!!!!!!! (Or was it Harry recharging his batteries?) I was gonna go down and advise him of the error or his ways at 5am after the inbound 747 woke me up, But thought better of it in case he had a pipe up the exhaust ;D

Donington - The view from the Marsh.
Well, where do we start?
First big apologies to SamSS. Being of limited mental capacity I didn't twig who you were! That cunning devious Simon, having wound me up over the last month over the vicarious state of his marriage, deliberately introduced you to me as "Linda". "What's a nice gal like that doing here" I thought, "And where's that vixen Sam?" - Oh well. I'll know next time - that is if Simon's lecherous double-entendres have not put the poor young innocent thing off such testosterone laden gatherings. Mind you , I must agree with Simon that Donny is not the ideal place for a show virgin.
But back to the beginning. Minimal preparation of the SS this time. I've learnt my lesson. Catch it by surprise. Don't let it know there's a show in the offing. Quick wash, bung in some petrol, and load it before it has time to develop any show induced mechanical Prima Donna strops.
Up at 05:00. Left about six. Thick fog all the way on unfamiliar roads. Horrible conditions in an SS but Marie and I pressed on over the 90 odd miles. Didn't get lost and arrived in freezing cold, misty, aircraft infested Donny. Greeted by Harry, Paul, Simon, Linda (Hi Sam!), and (I think) Alex(?) My memory is terrible. Quick coffee and burger and into the show as it was too d**n cold outside. By midday the sun was coming out and things looked much better. Nice noises from the cars making the most of the track and plenty of kit cars and punters. Simon organized a photo shoot with the track as a background and we spent ages posing the cars and snapping away. I showed my usual technological expertise by failing to produce a single decent snap from my digital camera. Apparently you shouldn't have the focus set at 9 inches. I'll use proper film next time. Alex(?) has a really good example. Looks the biz with those meaty tyres. Also improved steering wheel and pedal positions.
Simon and I left at three in convoy. I let him go first as he's been sulking since Stoneleigh after failing to catch me up before Peterborough on the return leg. Anyway he knew the route. It was a change to see his car from behind. It looked pretty good and his peak acceleration was faster than my SS. If he gets a close ratio box, or decent head/exhaust I won't be able to keep with him - until I get that V6 in. The most interesting thing is that I used less petrol on the return leg motoring at a good pace than going to Donny slowly (in 5th) in the fog. That twin 38 obviously doesn't flow well at low revs.
So there we go. Thanks to Harry for the tent, Simon pathfinding, Linda for much needed glamour, Paul, and Alex as (honorary) third musketeer. Also of course to Marie riding shotgun, and the Eagle for a perfect run - even with that wibbly wobbly leaky rear axle.
Next year let's have FOUR SS's - and what about you jeep types? Also I plan some track time once the V6 is in. Somebody else can take the photo's!
Oh yes!
Simon/Alex PLEASE e-mail me you shots
Cheers Chaz.

Oh I forgot..........after spending the evening stuffing his face with both mine and Alex's food, poor Simon was so exhausted the next morning that he was unable to help take the tents down . Instead he stood around leaning on his car making unhelpful sarcastic comments to anyone who he hadn't already bored senseless

You can't mean that debonair young stud of the same name? Helpful, selfless, and generous? The Simon who so brilliantly organised the Great SS Photo shoot? The self same one who's now going to e-mail me all the pics I failed to take? Chaz.

Simon didn't take his own tent down! Now why am I not surprised!!!!!!! Got home, with the mother-in-law and said to the wife what a good time I had been having gossiping with you all and she said "Well why didn't you stay? You had a doss bag in the car!" I was absolutely speechless, before quickly recovering and making some comment about not wanting to be away from her and the M-I-L’s need to get back. Needless to say I passed the exam question and gave the expected answer! Why do they come out with these questions? It was obviously not an invitation to have rung up to say, "Darling, I'm going to stay out all night drinking and trying (unsuccessfully) to flirt with Linda. Please let your mother know that I will be their sometime tomorrow!" ;D Still it was great to see you all, and to learn that SamSS stands for Samuels Sandwich Shop, or some such, and not anything to do with your real name, LINDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now back to work and stuff, JonL
