Any idea where to get replacement grommets that go through the 4.5 / 4.7mm side glass on SS Mk 3. ?
They are an "I" section ( flat both sides, no radius on edges.)
As a matter of interst, have changed the "roof bolts" originally fitted to the glass, with M6 recessed allen headed screws, which look much nicer than the 2 slotted ( cross ) bolts.

I too would like some (4x 6mm hole and 2x 9mm hole for catch) but grommets for glass are scarce, don't know why.
I have also used smarter SS bolts and nylck nuts.

I've been searching for some as well. Found a place that does them 4.5mm thick, but only sell in bulk. Mirror fixing grommets are one possibility, but not sure on sizes. The other option could be to use standard grommets,2 cut in half, offset to one side to make 2 T sections ,then fit one either side of the glass.

If you google Mectron Ram Seal you will find that these not only fit perfectly but allow far easier movement than the originals

OK, I found all the components to mount the side windows, apart from affordable pop out catches, VW T1 are like 35 quid. each!. See in the for sale section I am looking at supplying fixing kits. Favourite catches are Mazda RX8

I can't belive I'm doing this but I'm sharing my two-pennuth again.
Regarding the Eagle windows and the hinge and stay set-up.
My car is a Mk1 with the badly placed, and too close together hinge mounting holes that Peter pointed out. (The stay hole appear to be the same for all Mk's.) I am playing around with rubber mounting bobbins fixed to the inside window surround with simple brackets. No amount of research has thrown up an suitable, smart or descrete looking external hinges.
New fixing points allow a better hold on the glass, as the top hole can be positioned higher on the window's leading edge now. So far so good.
My first problem is that my windows are 6mm thick and weigh in at 3Kg, not the 3mm Peter says is the norm. This is too too much weight to be accurately held by the flexible rubber mounts and also give extra weight for the door rams to lift. Brackets inside the window mean a tidyier outside and no rusting.
So my next move is to get some lighter windows made that will not droop on the rubber 'hinges'. First thought, polycarbonate; lightweight but it scratches over time.Toughened glass would be best. If the suppliers I have contacted come through, I will post more details for anyone interested. I may even have some spare windows if I am able to buy a new set.
I can also suggest some designs for the inside window brackets that use the rubber mounting bobbins. These have the advantage of allowing any windows to be used eg if replacing the originals with either a later or earlier version. The brackets are fixed using crimped and bonded rivnuts to the side frames.
On a side note, I have been using nylon top-hat bushes to protect the glass from damage from the threadded metal bolts holding the hinges and stays in place. These or plain nylon bushes in conjunction with nylon washers seem to provide all the protection needed to the glass. The are also easier to obtain. My only other thought was nylon nuts and bolts. With the hinge action coming soley from the bobbins, there is no need for any flex in the glass mounts so nylon seems to work fine.
I'd love to hear any thoughts on my ideas. (Try to be encouraging!?)

The grommets can most likely be 3d printed in TPU plastic. I have created a model for a grommet of 8mmOD, 6mmID and 3mm glass thickness. Obviously can be changed to fit any size. When I get a part for my 3d printer, I'll have a go at printing in TPU plastic.

Whilst sorting out all SS related stuff in the 'shed' I cam across a pair of NOS early MKI side windows in 3mm glass with 6mm holes, I have them in a protective case but shipping etc might be expensive. would swap for Mk III ones.
