hi
I don't really know but I can guarantee it will be 4 times longer than what ever I say lol
I can see some of the chassis sections have rusted through so will drop the body off and get the chassis sand blasted so we can see what we have it has no engine and box so I have to make a decision on what to use I have been looking at the jaguar 3lt V6, all aluminium reasonable amount of power and they seem to be cheap as chips
will try and get the body off this week
cheers Andy

had a look round the rv today, wow standards were different back then
is this standard ? 2 bolts welded ( sort of ) to the chassis for the anti roll bar bracket to bolt to

What year is it ?, the early ones were pretty crude, the rear and front suspension mounts were just bits of tube welded to the chassis. Mine is an early one, they still had the fibreglass engine cover behind the back seats (vw). My chassis has seen some modification I have welded blocks to the chassis to mount the suspension lower (raise the chassis) at front and rear, added outriggers and some internal side impact protection, tow bar mount. If you have the body of then thats the time to make improvements. I think there is a load of my photos on here somewhere, if you need any I can email them to you. Keep posting pics and I can see whats what.

Hi Terry it was registered in 1986 had another quick look after work and its a bit rusty here and there, some of the tubes have rust holes clean through them, but then it is over 30 years old and it looks nothing more than erw tube so I guess its done well to last this long, once the body is off I can have a better look, it looks like it would be pretty easy to make a whole new chassis, as long as its identical I don't see a problem with that that way I could get it galvanised from the outset, would see me out lol

I'm afraid that is not the shape of the RV chassis, it may be how it was intended but it was simplified.

hello guys I managed to get an hour or so on the eagle after work today pics are off my phone so they are a bit poor will dig out my camera and use that in future well the body is now off and I can see what I have, crossmembers and braces are beyond repair but main chassis rails seem ok its no surprise I knew what I was buying and it was cheap enough, will send the chassis of to be shot blasted tomorrow, once its back I will replace the cross members I can see many things I consider to be bad design on this chassis but its lasted 32 years so far with falling apart so it cant be that bad

I can see where the changes were made. basically the front and rear are much the same to take the Cortina running gear but the main rails are straight instead of following the VW footprint. Attachment DeletedKinda likea dis. As you can see the VW footprint version is much heavier with more bracing than the later one, no wonder so many people have modified the later one.

I found time to finish stripping the chassis today funny Saturday would seem like a good day to spend in the workshop all day tinkering but it doesn't see to pan out that way lol any way god bless who ever built first time round he greased all the bolts, they all came out easy peasy axles dropped on the floor and the chassis was free now here's the but lol. once it was a bare chassis I could roll it over to have an examine of the bottom, not good 32 years have taken their toll, far to rusty for my liking so I am just going to make a new chassis exact copy of what I have, doesn't look to tricky its just box section

having looked inside the existing box section its clear to see that its well rusty in there so here's a thought, since I will be using nice new 80x40 box section would it be a good idea to cap the ends and make sure all sections of the chassis are connected inside so I can install a filler plug and pour in a gallon of oil so it slops around inside and runs back and forth finding its way into all the sections of the chassis ??

I would take a step back from the original and have a hard look at where the weak points are and if you can adapt it for say a Sierra axle and would a 5 speed fit, then make it. All the best with the project I a sure it is not going to be a quickie but a goodie. Peter

View AttachmentFollowing the demise of Eagle Cars Ltd in 1998 the RV Eagle spent a short time under Pilgrim management between 1998 – 2004 before being sold. The eagle has been in production for 34 years under different management groups.

After the demise of Eagle Cars Ltd in 1998 there were several attempts to make the RV and one for the SS (Tim Naylor's TEAC) at that time Tim's associate had the RV including the 4x4 but nothing came of it and when the bailiffs loomed large the molds were either seized or disappeared. no one apart from him knows for sure. The "Eagle Cars" brand is no longer registered so anyone could resurrect it and as far as I can find out Tim Dutton didn't register either car as a copyright design as the RV was already a copy of the CJ6 and the SS came from the Cimbria (not the Stirling/Nova).
I have tried to contact Tim on several occasions but understandably he does not wish to return to that time as it was a bad one having sunk a great deal of time and money and I guess strained his family life and to no end. The SS moulds were sold on Ebay about 2009 to someone in Wexford but have disappeared.

It will be much better with a new chassis. You could also add perimeter rails for side impact, and extra bracing etc. There is much room for improvement on these chassis.
