Hi Guys,
I have given up hope of finding my old Cortina based RV, I got nowhere with the DVLA and none of the 100's of postings came up with any information.
So I have just purchased an old Daihatsu F50 based RV, its a 1979 F50 and needs a complete refresh, its all there and solid but not in the best condition and some of it is simply dangerous.
The chassis is amazing, it must have been well prepared before being fitted to the RV body as it is covered in thick RED LEAD paint and there is almost no rust at all, the only rush found so far is on one side of the front chassis raises, simple fix. A hammer test of the whole chassis just sang happiness with each blow :-)
I am going to do a body off restoration as the wiring is horrid, The seat mountings are just a simple bolt through the fibreglass floor with a small washer and nut on the underside, scarey stuff I will intend to post a "doing it up post", more for information of others and to record the process.
Question: I need new wheels as the current ones are far to gone, Can I use wheels of a fourtrak?
As always any help would be appreciated. Regards Simon.

As long as the off-set is OK and the PCD is correct, why not?

Hi Peter, Yes its one from the register, 13 owners (LIJ 7736) therefor the register need updating with my details, location Dorset) The RV is all there and is in pretty good nick overall but there are a number of stress cracks in the fiberglass where its been bashed but I have Fiber glassing skills so that's not an issue. The spare wheel carrier is dreadful, made from a piece of 45mm x 5mm mild steel which bent of course and also pulled a strengthening bracket through the body work so I am going to rebuild that correctly, it also has alloy side steps, the entire support structure of which is rusted to nothing, again I have good welding skills so another job for the list. Wiring is scary and wont pass an MOT as it is, its just hanging in the air, with the new MOT rules this year that needs to be secured properly. Wheels are useless, total rust fest. Seat mounts and seat belt mounts are not good enough and need reinforcing. The Jeep has been jacked up, not by raising the suspension which is normal but by packing the body shell upwards by stacking two lengths of 2x1 steel about the mounting points. Those packers are in a bad state and need replacing, this in turn means that the front and rear bumpers don't align with the body work correctly, again this will be fixed correctly. It needs a new soft top but have sorted out a solution for that. The body comes off next week Its also been bodged in places and that horrid aluminium chequer plate dashboard is soon to go.

Still not found time to upload any photos but I have been busy. Chassis legs are all cleaned out with a brush screwed yo a stick :-)
Apart from one 9" section on the front of one leg they are mint. Front leg repair should be done this weekend.
Think I have also found the right PCD finally after a load of measuring and triple checking.
Seems the PCD is 139.7 with a 110 bore and an offset of 84mm
Replacing the wheels for a reasonable price is a challenge I now working on but at least the chassis is great so no real cost on that other than a good clean and a coat or 10 of Schuts underseal. Wondering if I should do the under body too, any views on that? It does not seem to have much if anything on it at present.
Front and rear bumper steel replacement requirements are caculated as is the steel to replace the bars used to jack up the bodywork. Almost 13 meters in total. Omg!!!
Been checking the roll cage, seat belt and seat mountings, not very good at all. Pretty sure a penny washer through fiberglass is no where near enough. The main roll cage loop fixings don't look right either so I have big plans to sort all of that very soon but all in all its really not too bad so such an old beast.

Hi Guys, Finally I have found some time to upload some progress pictures, as you can see life on the old RV has been somewhat hectic. I Have had huge problems locating some replacement wheel cylinders.
Managed to find 2 in Europe for the rear but had to order the front 4 from a Japanese based supplier and they won't turn up till end of December.
And another further delay to progress now as I am going to be laid up for the rest of the year following an operation.
No giving up on this RV :-)

Great workmanship and a fantastic build page, you should tell everyone how you did that.
Hope you get over your opp soon and back on the job. Got my right knee due for replacement in the new year so I'll be out of action too for a bit and no work, no pay. bummer so it will be a very short convalescence, should be able to limp around and still fix the buggys.

Many thanks Peter for the kind words. I have a double knee op coming, not full replacements yet, those a still a few years away but good luck with yours. The above post are simply a series of images that I took from a PDF document, the original document was drafted in MS word at my work place during lunch times, it was so big that I could not email it out to home so had to convert to a PDF as that was far smaller.

Rear brakes now all done. New shoes, new cylinders and totally replaced all the pipe work.
Had a leaky master cylinde. Another nightmare locating a seal kit, finally located a set in darkest Indonesia.
Front wheel cylinders are past it. Tried to re-hone them but not good enough.
There are 4 of them in total. Can't find a single replacement anywhere. Going to try looking at some early Toyota ones. The look the same but with slightly different bolt pattern, not really going to know until i buy one and test fit it.
Also decided to replace all the fuel lines while I am at it. Finally one easy job.
I have also cleaned and repainted both axles.
Also done a full strip and renew of the steering linkages and track rod ends and painted them also.
The steering box needed a full strip and clean out. That's done along with a fresh coat of paint.
Will.post some more progress reports more often from now as I am back on my feet again after my enforced sofa rest over Christmas.

Brilliant work and again superb build pages. So much easier and cleaner to do a clean and paint item by item before proceeding to next stage and the end result is very professional. Great work. I use www.everyexhaustpart.com very helpful. and and Ebay too.

Thanks Peter.
Had a nightmare, evening before my first MOT, the passenger side mirror arm broke off.
Off at 8.30am the next morning. All good, get to the MOT station, darn indicators have died. Drive home, replace flasher relay.
Off I go again. Just before I get there, i noticed a whiff of smoke coming from the indicator stalk, humm and back home I went, turned out there was a wire shorting on my nice new stainless steering column has shorted. Fixed that and back to the MOT station.
FAILED MOT.
Some previous owner numpty had only gone and fitted the drivers side rear leaf spring the wrong way around causing the drivers side rear wheel to be 50mm to far back :-( when compared to the other side. Twisted rear brake hose and now dip beam not working.
Worked till 10 yesterday night fixing it all.
Managed to get a retest today and bingo although I do have a small oil leak to fix from the engines vac pump, another hose bodge to fix (Not mine I may add) but very simple to correct the right way.
Was a trial I tell you, could not take off the leaf spring without destroying the bushes and no idea where I would get replacements quickly so I modified the mounting plates by drilling two new holes and welding up the old ones and refitting.
good result in the end for sure.
