That is a cracking bargain! It is a 2+2 NOT a SS, so even rarer, one of only a handful known to exist. (now entered as 2+7 ready for next upload) Anyone who was in the market for a Ford Eagle should buy this or they were just not serious. Seats, loom, trim and paint couple of grand and all the hard work already done. (shame about the VW version boot lid but possible that makes it a very early one, mid to later 80's.

As a matter of interest do any records exist to how many 2+2's were built both Ford and VW versions?

About 20-ish as far as I can find out, not one of their most popular models. we now have 7 on the register, they were all Ford based. Unfortunately Rob Budd who last owned Eagle Cars (1985-1999) has retired the France and according to his son wants nothing to do with that part of his life, I did try and will again but I drew a blank.

I just filled him in with the facts that it's not a SS as such but a rarer 2+2 and please pass on club contact details to new owner, something I do to all Ebay sellers

And still as a SS, For a grand that is a really good price considering the mechanics, sadly 2+2s are not very popular, even among we affectionardos. Hope some one makes a go of it, not too much work, mainly body and trim.

My 2 plus 2 is definately NOT Ford based. It is VW Beetle and sat on a pan. However if you read certain literature it was apparently not built for the VW pan despite there being original advertising literature for both VW and Ford versions.

It is just great to hear there is a VW based one out there, I hope we see it at a show before too long, Stoneliegh is only a few weeks away and it may be the last the way things are going as it is indeed the sole remaining kit car show in the UK.
The great thing was that the Ford bodies had the same footprint as the VW ones but with a floor and tunnel built in and this applied to the SS, RV and 2+2, so if one cut the floor away leaving a 2" flange it would indeed fit onto a 'kipper'. Although different versions of the 2+2 were indeed advertised, as far as I know only a few Ford based ones were in fact built. I have been trying to get production figures from Rob Budd via his son Colin but to no avail, so far.

I'm afraid it will be a while before it gets near a show. I recently bought a VW Panache - based on a box ladder chassis and running an Austin 1800 engine - this will be taken off and will go on a Beetle chassis. My son has taken a liking to this so that will be built before my other stuff. I can do pictures if you want them.

It was possibly me you sent the message to. I did list mine on there recently and got a message explaining it was a 2+2.
It did almost go to someone who, unsurprisingly just wanted "the motor and box for me escort". This deffo wouldnt have been my first choice but I needed to do something with it.
However, after some ado (and relisting it again) it did eventually sell. To someone pretty local who wanted it to fix and seemed super keen. They have since contacted me saying they have gotten it to run again and even moved it under its own steam. They also promised to visit me and show me when its done which I thought was rather nice of them. I believe I did mention this forum to them but not sure if they checked it out.

Not a bad price for 2 cars. Atleast one of them is registered so can definitely go back on the road. Not many pictures but the bodies dont look hacked up. Would be a good project for somebody with space.

1989 MkIII not 1966 as stated, but a sound starting point. 2K not bad, may well be snapped up by Ford Cortina fan.

i have a ss eagle kitcar mk1 on a 1953 vw beetle chassis Is it registered on the original donor number or a Q plate. Mine is a 1966 but on a Q so it is a 1995- The seller is a dodgy countryside garage , I did ask about the year as I saw at least one was on a Q plate which would have made it a post 1985 but he insited the log book said 1966 so I guess the other one is on the donor plate, He was very rude and told me to "piss of", great sales pitch.

The minute you bring up log books and registration regarding kitcars, it gets a bit tense. Lots of old kits sitting on original donor plates when they should have been re registered many years ago. Its too late now but nobody is willing to loose the car.
I think the one forsale on ebay looks fine on it Q plate. Cant tell which one of the two it is though.
One of them has had a lot of body work restyled on it, looks good, much better than the original SS rear end.
