O.K. so last year no one turned up, this year people and some cars turned up but not enough people or interest for an AGM it seems. so what the hell is happening? Are the people currently running things willing to continue? Are the ones with the big ideas and smart arse comments willing to put their effort and time where their mouths are? Can WE turn this decline around and get back to 2006 at least? Or should we all just bugger off to the Euro-Nova board sod the club and save ourselves a lot of hassle?

I, unfortunately, cannot offer any more than my support on the forum. I tried to accept a position on the committee a few years ago and that was incompatible with my work life then, now it is even more hectic!
I will continue to try and get my SS on the road and will be able to attend shows form the Summer onwards, with or without the SS, as I will be on the correct island! Other than that I cannot offer any more. I would not like to see the club fold as it has been a very friendly place and the combined knowledge and assistance I have had has made my, albeit overly long, project somewhat more more bearable.
The club has changed, even over the short time I have been a member, and probably always will. It now seems that there are far more RV owners and very few SS ones. Not that this is a problem and that said it is an Eagle Owners Club and must cater for all models of the marque. The atmosphere on the boards is, overwhelmingly, still friendly, helpful and inclusive and long may it remain so.
As for the future I am at a loss as to where we go. It may be possible to arrange "get togethers", that is where the emphasis should be, in my opinion, as that is where relationships formed on the web become firmer, but with the geographic spread of the owners it may not be possible. I know that we struggle to get people together at the main kit car shows so how would we get others together, but that is the challenge I see for the club. There are lots of people who are struggling with their projects and a helpful hand and smiling face may be all that's needed to reinvigorate and restart a project. The RHOC do a thing where several members of the club descend on a single builders house for a weekend to move a project along. It adds great value to the recipient and builds cohesion among all the members. It may be possible for individuals to meet or for geographical areas to do something for the EOC.
There are few answers to this problem and these are only my thoughts so take them as you will. I am not a perfect member, indeed this has reminded me that I must owe subs by now, so I will shut up and see what others have to say.

I like the idea of a hit squad descending on a single member for the weekend to get their project moving on, I saw something of this on a program where a couple of guys were restoring a VW Bettle and the local club chipped in with a lot of expertise and help. don't know if it would work with the EOC because as Jon said, a bit geographically spread out. I'm sure there would be a forest of hands go up to pop over and help me one week here in warm and sunny Spain but I don't need any, .

So, what IS happening? Are we collecting subs so we can pay for the web site etc? Is there a committee and who's on it? ? As far as I know we have enough money in the kitty to keep the website alive for the next 10 years! Without collecting any more subs in the mean time! ;D What more do we need? Untill we have a hardcore of people willing to attend shows with cars! BTW I haven't had a Membership Card since 2007. But am I bothered? No.

Well! it seems even the members forum is deserted these days. I pose the same question but put 2010 in place of 2009, what are the plans, anyone doing anything to gee things up a bit? I have revamped the site and made sure all links are current and deleting dead ones, added some techie stuff etc. Are we going to Stone's this year? If so we had better get moving arranging stuff like tent, banners and things and who could come. what state are the funds in? Could we have an AGM on-line on this forum as it seems not many are going to shows now?

Hi Peter. Stoneleigh is booked, Still have to talk to Terryrob/Scorpio about tent etc. Plans are on going here May have to be an on-line club only As far as I am aware the funds are there to run web for 20+ years if no more memberships taken..As none have been for a while now.

IN 2004 the EOC was near enough DEAD, no paid up members and Bob had done a bunk with the bank funds, (still has them), in two years I built it up to over 30 paid up members a large tent, banner and flag with a good turnout at Stones and all over the internet Following many critiques and why don't you's I stood down to let those who seemingly knew better do a great job of running the club their way, after all it wasn't "my club" as had been inferred. I'm all the work I (and Linda) put in has come to this but I'm not in a position or ideal location to do it all again. I just wish ONE person with the same drive and enthusiasm as I have would take it on, it would be a long hard slog in the current economical climate but it is possible, just needs a very committed person.

in two years I built it up to over 30 paid up members a large tent, banner and flag with a good turnout at Stones and all over the internet So good of you to take all the credit peter , thats the kind of thing that broke the club apart all them years ago , That turnout was a group effort of the members of the time , this is a peoples club and allways will be , its not a privatly owned enterprise , Im not saying you did not contribute peter but more that claiming to have done things single handed will get a few backs up , Newark is on its way if you want to wave your magic wand and prove me wrong , My opinion is that simons site that enabled build updates to be registered and catalogued was the hub that brought all those members together to use the forum , I bought a ss because i wanted too experience it , simon bought one after seeing mine , thats two members that went to stonleigh because they had been going kitcar shows for last ten years anyway , not because you bought a club flag , but there are members here that do lots of work to keep this club alive , scorpio , terry rob , gary , helen , cobra chris , One member even offered a whole new up to date website that i thought looked fantastic , but he was pushed aside with no thanks for his efforts, I have another eagle ss , i still read the forum , i may even post some build updates , but a bit more teamwork is needed peter to get turnout at shows again , I dont mean yo go on and dont think i dislike you because your an alright guy and i know you would do anything to get the club rolling again , but you have to include the members and thier ideas if this is going to happen , if you dont then it 'will' be your club'

So, are you offering to reserect the club again, put in all the hours and hard work needed or are you just going to sit by and let it slide Jason? you want to name ANYONE who helped me in the first six months with the reformation of the club in 2005 when I took over from Bob apart from Linda and then Chris? I spent most of my time contacting past members and those who I knew to have had Eagles and get them interested and back on board and paying their subs, the same subs that allow us to continue today. Membership cards, the tent, banner, flag etc was all me or instigated by me plus Chris making the flag pole on my request, redesigning the logo, the web site, setting up this forum, etc Travelling to the 2006 show 5 weeks after a knee replacement to keep things alive best I could, (there are those who don't attend because they had a cold or the cars playing up, (like they have had a whole year to sort that out and yes mine is a runner).
I can name a few who contributed to its demise, thinking they could do better and then buggered off and many more who promises to help but ran away when it came to giving a commitment. The main reason I stepped down apart from the distance thing is people said they could do better and I was making it "my club", well, as time has proved, it was "my club" as soon as I stepped down the club went from getting bigger and better to falling apart. I can only say from my point of view Linda's part in the club was positive even though she didn't have a kit car, let alone an Eagle (thanks too to Roy, Chris and co) and the the formation of the ACC was and is, insignificant. I know I could do it all again, even from 1500 miles away but why shoiuld I when people like Jason are obviously better at it than I was? p.s. ALL offers of help were and are accepted. NO ONE was or will be ignored or rejected. With a few notable exeptions. no one ever came through. Yes there was talk of updating the web site, although I can't see why as the one we have srves well and is till there after comperetition has vanished, The intergration of EOC and the 'unofficial' Eagle site never happeded and now the other site has gone, seemingly for good.

Peter , you say the club fell apart when you left , it did , but it did not fall apart becsuse you left , Sva and iva and winscreens are the things that kept cars away from shows , nothing else , Am i wrong I make a point of spending time with anyone who turns up on the club stand , mostly terry and scorpio , I understand your frustration peter and i feel the same ,but untill people start agreeing on things then the social side is going to suffer

You are wrong, because the cars that turned up in 2005 had all the above and were on the road, those interested enough were active on the forums but it all needed effort to keep it going, I sent dozens of e-mails and made a lot of calls to get people motivated.

And now that hopefuly that has cleaned the air >>>
THE WAY FORWARD?? Starters, 1. Someone who is commited take control.. we are out there if required! 2. Subs need to be paid... otherwise we dont have any record of who are our interested parties. It may be only a fiver but it helps. 3. Collect and post up to date info on who got what car and even record/follow up cars for sale on internet ie. e bay, I have dozens of Eagle photos on my Pc 4. Update site daily/ weekly as necc. ( once David has been found of course) 5. I take an Office board to shows >> lets have a few pics and a few A4 sheets on Eagle history to go with the sale brochures and pics I carry in caravan. There is more but I'm off to work to earn cash to either keep my Kit cars on the road or finish a few more !!! Have a good day, Don (Scorpio)

Looks like we are moving again, yipeee! Would it be OK with you guys if I carry on as webmaster / forum admin as it seems to be the job I can do best from here, Who's membership secretary, as mentioned we need to sort out membership I have the cards sorted and am happy to print off and laminate an A4 sheet of them at a time upon receiving info from membership sec'. Somewhere out there is a disc "stuff from Bob", with a data base of members addresses etc and their cars. (as well as the old forum up to 2006 and loads of photos) The contents of which was the basis for the email, post and phone campaign in 2006 that got things going again. Failing finding that, Terry, do we need someone who could start a data base to enter the details on and would those who have a membeship retain there number or should we start from scratch? Who's got 'shop' and what do we have left. Who is holding the bank account?

Peter, As far as I am aware I am still Membership Secretary, Secretary and Treasurer.
I still hold the bank account. I have 24 key fobs here so I suppose that I am also the Shopkeeper.
As for the disc "stuff from Bob", with a data base of members addresses etc and their cars. (as well as the old forum up to 2006 and loads of photos) The contents of which was the basis for the email, post and phone campaign in 2006 that got things going again. I have never seen or heard of it.
All I have is some old membership details i.e. numbers and names
As for the new list Gary has already started it, we have emailed everyone who is listed on the forum, plus some.
Gary has also contacted the kit car press to get them to run features on the club 2012 refresh. He has had some positive feed back so watch this space.
I am OK with you being Web Master.

I am OK with you as Web Master.
Can I have some Moderation Admin rights to help in the search for the NEW MEMBERS Can you do this Peter.
I believe Chris was a moderator before but he's not been on for a while. (The last I heard was that he'd been unwell)

Moderation rights will be conferred on all committee members wishing it, so here ya go mate.
Should we start a fresh membership list with new numbers as of May 2012 with maybe an A suffix for pre May 2012 (B for post May 2012 and C for 2014 etc) of retain our old numbers and just add new ones on the end?
|
|
|
Post by Gary on May 24, 2012 20:47:25 GMT
I think that we should for the time being at least keep the old numbers and just suffix with 12 i.e. 001-12 or 007-12 I all for this as I know Peter is. I am 007 and Peter is 001 Anybody got any thoughts on this? I am going to get a list/database of past members first then a list of those who have responded to the emails etc and finally the Upto date/New Members list

Don (Scorpio)
Are you Ok with keeping hold of the CLUB TENT ETC at least for the time being, it only really gets used at Stoneleigh anyway at the moment.
I know that Terry was going to source a gazebo for Newark as it would lend it self to the style of show. Any news on this Terry?

Don has a 3m x 3m pop up which we can use if he's going to newark. If not I might invest in one similar.
