If anyone is interested, I'm probably going to break the two SS's I have and the screens will be available. I'm to have to do this but despite having two ebay auctions (one ruined by a total timewaster) and over 150 watchers, I've had not one single bid on them. I need rid of the cars as we're moving house & I just don't have space to keep them. £200.00 per screen plus carriage.
Just catching up, been away for a while, my screen fitted, think it came in around the £320 pounds Had to collect it though from down south, (Well a friend brought it up on his travels) Worth the bottle of whiskey reward I gave him.
Well, two and a bit years on and how many bought a screen now they have the tooling? Just reading on the Stirling site of a Cimbria that has cracked his screen getting it out to paint the car, (why?) says its $1,470 to replace. What was the end result in fitting the first screen that was correct, is it still a good fit? What was the final part number, price and can one order a one-off still? This is a composite picture of all the latest info I have, how close is it?
When I took the screen out my SS before removing the body I was that worried it took me pretty much a full working day to take the screen out :-) broke lots of blades slowly peeling bits of silicon out but got there in the end
One of the points in the ebay of my car article was that there was a new screen worth £300. I did wonder where the figure came from
That said - doesnt seem to be too good a fit.. will likely be removing and reseating it.. VERY CAREFULLY !
I think the replacement screen was a good fit, it looked wrong as it was laid on an old one if the photo is anything to go on. It would be interesting to know after all the effort MellOrman put in how many owners actually bought one. In fact it would be nice to know how mellOrman is getting on with his SS two years on.
Mine will have to be re-seated as I can actually move it in the body, it's only held in by the stuff on the edge and about 10% of the surface.
Ed China did on a few cars, mainly due to having to weld in a patch to get rid of rust. 'cause he's not a proper mechanic at all, doesn't even hold or use tools right and when he swapped out the self levelling rear end on a Cosworth instead of just replacing the spheres I could have killed him! As a professional for over 40 years, watching him make me cringe.
